The Tax Accountant will have primary responsibility for filing sales/use tax and payroll withholding compliance. This position will also be responsible for corporate city income tax returns, trust and individual income tax returns. Additionally, the position will assist with special projects assigned by the Sr. Tax Accountant or Tax Manager, which may include personal property returns, state and local apportionment schedules and research as it relates to an audit or compliance matters. What we are looking for
- B.S. Degree in Accounting and at least 5 years of experience in taxes, or equivalent;
- Minimum background of 5 years in public accounting or corporate environment with multi-state tax experience;
- Able to read and understand the tax returns and the various states’ tax regulations;
- Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines during times when the schedule is heavy. Must be able to maintain accuracy and be detailed oriented;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Excellent tax research skills;
- Advanced personal computer and spreadsheet skills required;
- Knowledge of Ultra Tax (or similar Thompson Reuter product) a plus;
- Knowledge of Sage fixed asset and LT Tax payroll system a plus;
- Must be self-directed and able to deal with interruptions while completing important project deadlines;
- Good organizational skills and reading comprehension.
What you will do
- Preparation and filing of sales and use tax returns as well as review fixed asset and expense invoices to determine taxability and apply the proper tax codes;
- Research various state and city tax laws as it applies to sales and use tax in the restaurant and manufacturing industry to ensure the company is in compliance;
- Assist with compliance of payroll withholding and unemployment insurance returns for states and cities using LT Tax payroll software;
- Preparation of city corporate income tax returns and back up work papers as well as research related filing requirements to ensure company is compliant with state tax laws;
- Preparation of trust and individual income tax returns;
- Interact with or assist with sales tax audits by compiling and analyzing information prior to audit and identifying potential exposure items or refunds;
- Special projects including state and local apportionment schedules and personal property tax returns.
