Systems Engineer I (Dedicated)
A dedicated on-site Systems Engineer is a professional responsible for managing and supporting the IT infrastructure of a specific client organization within a Managed Service Provider (MSP) environment. Their primary role is to act as the dedicated, on-site representative of the MSP to ensure the efficient, secure, and reliable operation of systems and networks, provide technical support, and assist with implementation of solutions that improve the client’s IT environment. The role involves working with a dedicated client’s range of technologies, from networking and servers to security systems and some cloud services. This client is located in Ann Arbor, MI.
Key Responsibilities:
Be the first point of contact for IT service issues for dedicated client.
Work within Cygnus ticketing system for service and project related ticketing.
Provide on-site technical support for client systems (Windows/Mac), responding to incidents and provide front line resolution to issues related to hardware, software, networking, and security.
Provide on-site support to assist with Installation, configuration, and maintenance of IT infrastructure items, including servers, workstations, and software applications for dedicated client.
Perform routine maintenance checks on server and network systems.
Perform basic inventory management for client devices such as workstations, laptops, etc.
Deploy, configure, and manage desktop operating systems and assist server operating system configurations.
Provide on-site assistance to troubleshoot and resolve network and server issues, such as connectivity problems, latency, or hardware failures.
Optimize system performance through regular maintenance, updates, and improvements.
Proactively identify potential issues and take corrective actions to prevent system failures or performance degradation.
Configure and manage backup solutions for client to ensure business continuity.
Maintain detailed documentation of client systems, networks, configurations, and service tickets.
Create and update SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for client systems and services.
Build strong relationships with dedicated client by understanding their needs and providing timely technical solutions.
Communicate technical information in an accessible and understandable way to non-technical stakeholders.
Participate in regular SBR meetings with dedicated client and Account Manager.
Work closely with other Cygnus Systems engineers, technicians, and support teams to resolve client issues and implement solutions.
Collaborate with account managers to ensure client satisfaction and effective service delivery.
Key Qualifications:
2-4 years of experience in systems engineering, IT infrastructure, or a related field, with a strong understanding of system architecture and design principles.
Proficiency in desktop operating systems (e.g., Windows, Mac).
Knowledge of Windows Server operating systems and virtualization concepts (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
Knowledge of basic networking concepts, protocols, and security practices (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN).
Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex systems and propose effective solutions.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating effectively with team members and stakeholders.ea
Preferred Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Server+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, AWS Certified Solutions Architect) are advantageous.
Experience using a service ticketing system (ConnectWise, Kaseya, etc).
2+ years of experience working on-site as a dedicated service engineer or network admin for a medium to large size company.
