Overview of the Role:

The System-Network Engineer is responsible for the implementation, support, and maintenance of the organization’s network and systems infrastructure. This entry-level role focuses on ensuring the stability, performance, and security of network services, servers, and hardware while providing support for end users and technical issues. The ideal candidate will assist in monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing both network and server environments, working closely with senior engineers to develop and maintain efficient systems.

Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Network Support: Assist in the configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of LAN/WAN networks, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
  • System Administration: Support the setup, configuration, and maintenance of servers (Windows/Linux) and virtualized environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  • End-User Support: Provide tier 1 technical support to end-users, resolving issues related to network connectivity, server access, and hardware performance.
  • Monitoring & Performance: Utilize network monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, SolarWinds) to track performance and respond to alerts and system outages.
  • Security & Compliance: Assist in implementing and maintaining network security protocols, such as firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS).
  • Hardware Installation & Maintenance: Assist in installing, configuring, and maintaining network hardware, including servers, switches, and other peripheral equipment.
  • Backup & Disaster Recovery: Participate in the management and execution of backup and disaster recovery solutions, ensuring data integrity and system resilience.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of network configurations, system setups, and procedures.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with senior engineers on network and system projects, including upgrades, expansions, and new deployments.
  • System Updates: Ensure systems and network devices are patched and updated regularly, keeping them secure and up to date with the latest firmware and software releases.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Certifications: Entry-level certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, or CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) preferred.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience in IT, system administration, or network support roles. Internships and hands-on project work may be considered.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Basic understanding of TCP/IP networking, subnetting, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Familiarity with network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls) and protocols.
  • Experience with Windows/Linux server administration and virtualization technologies.
  • Understanding of network security principles, firewalls, and VPNs.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, strong communication abilities, and a willingness to learn and develop in a team environment

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds with regularity.
  • Occasionally (or regularly) must be able to stoop, bend, twist, pick up items, etc.
  • Must be able to visually assess items.
