System Programmer I

Location: Bend, OR (On-site)

PrideStaff, a staffing agency in Bend, OR, is seeking a detail-oriented System Programmer I to join a local financial institution’s IT team. This position focuses on the administration, configuration, and optimization of a core banking platform. You will serve as a subject matter expert, handling escalated technical requests and ensuring our proprietary systems remain stable, compliant, and efficient to serve our members. This is an ideal role for an IT professional who enjoys database work, procedural scripting, and contributing to a mission-driven community organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Core System Administration: Maintain and configure the Jack Henry Symitar banking software to ensure 24/7 operational stability.

  • Technical Scripting: Utilize PowerOn and shell scripting to automate tasks, generate reports, and improve system workflows.

  • Escalated Support: Act as the Tier 3 technical lead for issues escalated from the Help Desk, troubleshooting complex problems within the core banking environment.

  • Database Management: Perform lower-level database tasks, configurations, and maintenance to ensure data integrity and audit readiness.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the Information Services (IS) team to implement system updates and backfill critical technical needs.

  • Continuous Learning: Dedicate time to mastering proprietary credit union technologies and staying current on NCUA-compliant IT standards.

Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Minimum of 3 years in a System Administration or Systems Analyst role.

  • Experience with mainframe or legacy systems (e.g., AIX or AS400) is highly preferred.

    • Foundational knowledge of SQL or similar procedural/procedural-logic languages.

    • Comfort with shell scripting and command-line environments.

  • A background in a highly regulated industry (Banking, Healthcare, or Government) is a significant plus.

  • A service-oriented "people helping people" attitude and the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical staff.

  • Must reside in or be willing to commute to the Bend, OR area.
