Switchgear Technician

This position is responsible for assignments repairing a wide variety of padmounted and metal enclosed switchgear at our facility in Commerce City, CO or at a customer site.


  • Experienced to follow safety guidelines for task in factory and in field
  • Complete the work order instructions as assigned and on time, document parts and labor time.
  • Analytical skills to complete electrical equipment inspections (internal and external) and document defects.
  • Disassemble used and surplus medium-voltage switchgear for inspection, refurbishment, and customization.
  • Clean, repair, and refurbish switchgear compartments, structures, mechanisms, and electrical components.
  • Inspect equipment for damage, wear, corrosion, contamination, and missing parts.
  • Reassembling switchgear to engineered specifications and customer requirements.
  • Modify and customize pad-mounted and metal-enclosed switchgear layouts and configurations.
  • Install, fabricate, and fit copper and aluminum busbar systems.
  • Install and wire current transformers (CTs), potential transformers (PTs), control components, relays, and metering equipment.
  • Install and replace medium-voltage fuses, fuse mountings, load-interrupter switches, circuit breakers, and associated hardware.
  • Ability to perform electrical testing on switchgear, VFIs and relays is a huge plus
  • Safely utilize industrial equipment like forklifts following capacity and load limits.
  • Ability to work in harsh climates like heat or cold including outdoors.
  • Ability to drive company truck – Valid Drivers License
  • Up to 25% travel (Negotiable) using company truck, $80 per diem, gas/hotel paid for by company credit card

Requirements

  • HS Diploma/GED, required.
  • Experience in refurbishing padmounted or metal enclosed switchgear & buss bar installation
  • 2 years of previous shop/manufacturing experience.
  • Communication skills sufficient to work effectively with internal and external customers
  • Basic knowledge of electrical equipment, hand tools, power tools.
  • First Aid/CPR, AED, OSHA 10 training preferred.
  • Complete background check, Wonderlic assessment, workers compensation history check & drug test
