The Senior Vice President, Inland Marine is responsible for providing strategic, operational, and underwriting leadership for the Inland Marine line of business. This role oversees portfolio performance, underwriting discipline, product development, distribution strategy, and talent development while driving profitable growth aligned with the organization’s overall business objectives. The SVP serves as a key member of senior leadership and a trusted partner to distribution, claims, actuarial, finance, and risk management teams. This position will be based in our Alpharetta, GA office and will report directly into the EVP, E&S Property. Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute the long‑term strategic vision for the Inland Marine business, aligned with corporate goals and market opportunities
Lead portfolio planning, growth initiatives, and market expansion strategies across key segments and geographies
Monitor competitive landscape, industry trends, regulatory developments, and emerging risks to adapt strategy proactively
Establish underwriting authority, appetite, guidelines, and pricing strategies to ensure disciplined risk selection and profitability
Oversee portfolio performance, including growth, profitability, rate adequacy, retention, loss trends, and exposure management
Partner with actuarial and analytics teams to drive data‑driven underwriting and portfolio optimization
Ensure operational excellence, underwriting efficiency, and strong internal controls
Drive strong relationships with key brokers, agents, and strategic partners
Collaborate with distribution leadership to align sales strategies, target markets, and producer engagement
Represent the organization externally at industry events, conferences, and client meetings
Build, lead, and mentor a high‑performing underwriting and leadership team
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, inclusion, and professional development
Support succession planning and capability building across the Inland Marine organization
Partner closely with Claims, Risk Engineering, Legal, Compliance, IT, and Operations to ensure seamless execution and strong client outcomes
Support enterprise initiatives related to technology, data, governance, and process improvement
Qualifications
15+ years of experience in Inland Marine or specialty commercial insurance underwriting
Proven senior leadership experience with responsibility for portfolio management, strategy, and financial results
Deep expertise across Inland Marine segments such as builder’s risk, motor truck cargo, contractors equipment, fine art, or related specialty lines
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or professional designations (e.g., CPCU) strongly preferred
