Position is for a non-profit organization called Music for Youth (MFY) in a public school system in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. Each student receives a private lesson, and group class (older students also have orchestra rehearsal weekly or biweekly). MFY is the string instructional program for District 25, run by a board of parent volunteers, which provides instruction in 7 elementary schools & 2 middle schools. Responsibilities: - Teach private lessons in the public schools (grades K-8) for 32 weeks from September to May, optional teaching in the summer also available. - Teach several weekly group classes at varying levels and possibly conduct an orchestra. - Provide ongoing parent education and collaborate with other teachers, board members and school administration. - Attend student recitals, performances, and lead performances in the community. - Be reliable, punctual, flexible, and well-organized. Strong administrative skills are required. Qualifications: - Masters Preferred, Registered Suzuki Books 1-6, Organization and interpersonal skills. Private and group teaching experience. Public school teaching experience is a bonus. Salary: $68/hour + a base salary for administrative work. Retirement plan available.
