Job Description

The Survey CAD Technician uses AutoCAD and Civil 3D to support civil engineers and surveyors by producing high-quality design and drafting deliverables for survey, municipal, and land development projects. This role focuses on creating accurate drawings, layouts, and diagrams from sketches, field data, and engineering input, initially supporting a large survey project and then contributing to a variety of civil and land development assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Produce accurate drawings using computer-assisted design and drafting software, primarily Civil 3D and AutoCAD 2D.
  • Analyze sketches, drawings, field notes, and verbal information from engineers, surveyors, technicians, and designers to determine the most appropriate views, detail drawings, and supplemental information needed to complete each assignment.
  • Work closely with engineers, surveyors, technicians, project coordinators, project managers, and support staff to prepare drawings and layout data for survey, municipal, and land development projects.
  • Revise, update, and modify drawings as necessary based on project changes, review comments, and field updates.
  • Plot, organize, and assemble project-related documents and drawing sets for internal use and client deliverables.
  • Apply knowledge of surveying, engineering practices, mathematical formulas, and relevant physical sciences to produce clear, accurate, and constructible drawings.
  • Adhere to established company CAD standards, methodologies, and quality control procedures in all drafting work.
  • Maintain strong internal and external client relationships through responsive communication and reliable, high-quality deliverables.
  • Support achievement of project performance objectives and financial metrics as defined by internal key performance indicators.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, solution-oriented culture by participating in problem-solving and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned to support project and team needs.
Essential Skills
  • At least 2 years of hands-on Civil 3D CAD experience.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, including 2D drafting for civil and survey-related work.
  • Working knowledge of survey projects or basic survey principles and terminology.
  • Ability to interpret and translate survey notes, sketches, and engineering input into accurate CAD drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing precise, high-quality drawings and documentation.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, surveyors, technicians, and project staff in a team environment.
  • Solid understanding of basic engineering and mathematical concepts relevant to civil and survey drafting.
  • Organizational skills to manage plotting, organizing, and assembling project documents and drawing sets.
  • Ability to follow established CAD standards, workflows, and methodologies.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • 2 or more years of specific experience as a Survey CAD Technician.
  • Experience working on survey projects within a dedicated survey department.
  • Familiarity with land development and municipal engineering projects.
  • Experience with MicroStation ORD (OpenRoads Designer) or similar civil design platforms.
  • Exposure to civil design for municipal, land development, power and energy, or related markets.
  • Interest in working within a dynamic, problem-solving environment that embraces new ideas and innovative approaches.
  • Motivation to grow professionally and contribute to projects that support community and infrastructure development.
Work Environment

This role is primarily office-based and supports a mix of survey, municipal, and land development projects using modern CAD tools and civil design software. The position typically follows a Monday through Friday schedule with flexible hours, totaling approximately 40–50 hours per week depending on project demands. The first 90 days are fully in-office (5 days per week) to support training, onboarding, and collaboration with the survey and engineering teams. After the initial training period, the role transitions to a hybrid arrangement, with approximately 3 days per week in the office and 2 days per week remote.
