Granger Medical Clinic has an opening for an Experienced Surgery Scheduler in our Murray Urology Clinic. The Surgery Scheduler is responsible for scheduling patients for surgeries, procedures, diagnostic tests, referrals, and pre-operative services. This position requires the application of clinical knowledge to ensure accurate scheduling of appropriate medical and urological procedures in accordance with provider orders and established protocols.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Coordinates scheduling of office- and hospital-based medical procedures and surgeries, including completion of all required facility documentation.
- Schedules diagnostic and imaging services and ensures completion of informed consent documentation in accordance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
- Communicates with vendors to confirm availability of required equipment and supplies for scheduled procedures and surgeries.
- Reviews patient medications and medical history to identify pre-admission testing requirements; documents relevant notes and special instructions.
- Coordinates and obtains required medical and urological clearances.
- Verifies patient insurance coverage and secures prior authorizations as required.
- Schedules follow-up appointments and additional testing as directed.
- Performs other duties as assigned in support of departmental and organizational objectives.
Essential Functions and Duties:
- Proficiency in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems and Microsoft Office applications REQUIRED.
- Demonstrated computer proficiency preferred.
- Working knowledge of surgical procedures preferred.
- Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills REQUIRED.
- Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain professionalism, tact, and diplomacy in all interactions.
- Flexibility to travel to other nearby urology clinic locations as needed.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; 1–3 years of experience in a healthcare setting preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior experience in surgery scheduling or medical office scheduling REQUIRED.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask, manage competing priorities, and resolve issues effectively while delivering excellent customer service.
- Experience with EMR systems preferred.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally.
- Frequent use of hands and repetitive motions associated with computer and office equipment operation.
- Work is performed in an indoor, climate-controlled office environment.
