Join our team as a Certified CVOR Surgical Technologist in Bismarck, ND. You will function as a member of the cardiac team, assisting physicians and nurses in the operating room during complex cardiac, thoracic, vascular, and robotic procedures. You will prepare the OR, sterilize and set up specialized equipment, and support the surgical team to ensure patient safety and efficient case flow.
Minimum Requirements:
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA or NCCT required.
- BLS Certification required.
- Minimum 2 years of CVOR experience with open heart procedures (CABG, valve) and vascular cases preferred.
- Must be able to first scrub on complex cardiac cases.
- Experience with thoracic, VATS, robotic cases, ECMO, and mechanical circulatory support (Impella 5.5) strongly preferred.
- Willingness to cross-train into general OR and ortho cases when CV volume is low. Floating to other OR specialties is required.
- Willingness to float to the inpatient floor as a 1:1 sitter to supplement hours.
- Experience charting in EPIC preferred.
- Ability to participate in on-call rotation with 15 minute response time and to work rotating holidays.
- Completion of department-specific orientation: approximately 4–5 unit days plus 2 buddy call shifts (flexible based on recent heart experience).
- Must meet client radius and employment status rules: not currently FT/PT/PRN with specified health system within 50 miles.
Assignment Details:
- Facility Type: Hospital (CVOR Department).
- Unit: CVOR Tech (2 CVOR suites; average 1–3 cases per day).
- Shift Name: Days.
- Typical schedule: 0645–1515 Monday–Friday; may start at 0600 for open heart case prep when notified the day before.
- Shift pattern includes day shifts plus call responsibilities.
- Weeknight call: approximately 3–4 times per week, 1515–0645.
- Weekend call: every other to every third weekend, Friday 1515 to Monday 0645.
- Call reprieve: 8 hour reprieve shifts post-call; sleep room available; housing should be available nearby to support call response.
- Orientation hours: approximately 12 total orientation hours; department-specific orientation as noted above.
- Number of CVOR suites: 2. Common cases include open hearts (CABG, valve), thoracotomies, VATS, convergent procedures, AAA, carotids, ION robotic cases, ECMO, and Impella.
