MajorDuties

  • Provides leadership and guidance to subordinate employees to administer, develop, deliver, and support information technology (IT) systems and services. Directs the work of subordinate employees at the organizational unit level. Work usually includes routine project/program tasks based on established policies, procedures, and guidelines. Managerial duties typically affect employees in one organizational unit. Managerial duties include: planning; communicating the organization's vision and objectives; setting priorities; assigning tasks and responsibilities; monitoring and evaluating performance; coaching and developing employee capabilities; approving leave; and taking, recommending or approving corrective/disciplinary actions as appropriate. Manages system administration services including maintenance; changes and upgrades; and system security of the hardware, operating system and system software. Support includes web server administration, network operating systems, file systems, and system software for servers. Supervises system administrators for different operating systems, Windows, Linux and Unix. Uses assigned budget, staff, and other resources to accomplish project/program objectives. Manages budget and requests additional resources, as needed. Contributes to budget planning process and projects short-term future needs and tracking financial information for the organization. Manages the budget for the organization using guidelines and policies for an FAA franchised organization. Administers customer agreements, ensures full cost recovery operations for all services performed. Contributes to ESC organizational budget and performance planning processes. Applies a comprehensive knowledge of the technical aspects of the work directed, a detailed knowledge of budget, human resource, and other administrative policies and procedures, and a detailed understanding of the objectives of the organizational unit. Contacts are primarily within the organizational unit/major subdivision with subordinates, peers, and higher-level managers to discuss the status of projects/programs and to share information. May also have frequent contact with customers to explain policies, procedures or for other project/program purposes. Work is typically governed by establish guidelines, policies, and procedures. Resolves routine problems independently, but consults with higher-level management when existing guidelines are not available or applicable to complex problems. May be called upon to assist in developing new policies and procedures.
