  • WHAT IS THE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION (CI) DIVISION? A description of the business units can be found at: https://www.jobs.irs.gov/about/who/business-divisions General Managerial Duties: As a Front Line Manager you will: Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work. Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Evaluate work performance of subordinates and makes recommendations for outstanding performance recognition and/or disciplinary action. Give advice, counsel or instruction to employees on work and administrative matters. Interview candidates for positions within the organization/unit and recommend appointment, promotion or reassignment to such positions. Hear and resolve complaints from employees, refer group grievances and/or more serious unresolved complaints as appropriate. Effect minor disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands, recommend other actions in more serious cases. Identify developmental and training needs of employees, providing or arranging for needed development and training. Initiate ways to improve production, work processes and/or to increase the quality of the work directed The following are the job specific duties of this position. You will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position. The incumbent oversees the technical and administrative direction of a group of Special Agents and support personnel in a field office setting. Position requires eligibility for access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), other intelligence-related Special Sensitive information, or involvement in Top Secret Special Access Programs (SAP). The incumbent supports the overall mission of CI by overseeing program segments concerned with investigations into suspected and/or alleged criminal tax fraud violations and other matters for which the Criminal Investigation Division has investigative responsibility. Plans, conducts and supervises protective services operations with other government agencies, both Federal and State.

Education

A college or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. Requirements

Telework Eligible Positions: Telework eligible positions do not guarantee telework. Employees must meet and sustain IRS telework eligibility requirements and supervisor's approval to participate in the IRS Telework Program. Limited telework may be approved on an ad hoc basis. Employees must also be within a 200-mile radius of their official assigned post-of-duty (POD) while in a telework status. As a reminder - If you are selected for a position, you are responsible for reporting to your designated POD (location) on the negotiated start date or as directed by management. Subject to a 1-year probationary period (unless already completed). Subject to a 1-year supervisory or managerial probationary period (unless already completed). Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position. A drug test with a negative result is required. Employment of any candidate selected for this position may be conditional on classification and/or audit of federal tax returns (may include up to 2 years of returns). The employment of any candidate, including a current employee or a new hire, selected for this position will be conditional on obtaining and maintaining a High-Risk Security Clearance. Possess a valid state motor vehicle operator's license upon appointment and maintain a valid license while you occupy the position. Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory. You will be ineligible to occupy this position if at any time you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, unless you received a pardon or your conviction was expunged or set aside. Complete a pre-employment medical examination (including vision, hearing, cardiovascular and mobility of extremities) by an authorized Government physician and be determined physically fit to perform strenuous physically demanding duties. You will be required to undergo regular physical examinations and to maintain a level of physical fitness in accordance with the standards and policies of this agency. Complete or have previously completed the Criminal Investigation Training Program (CITP) course(s) at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA. File a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report within 30 days of appointment and annually from then on.

Evaluations

Your qualifications will be evaluated based on your application materials (e.g., resume, supporting documents), your responses on the application questionnaire, and your responses to all assessments required for this position. A quality group rating will be used to rank and select eligible candidates. If qualified, you will be assigned to one of three quality level groups, Superior/Best Qualified, Highly Qualified and Qualified. Referral: Eligible applicants rated in the highest quality group, may be referred to a selecting official for consideration. Candidates, if required to participate in a selection interview (telephonic and/or in person at the discretion of the Selecting Official in accordance with hiring practices), will be interviewed in quality group order. The salary range indicated in this announcement reflects the minimum locality pay up to maximum locality pay for all duty locations listed. The range will be adjusted for selected duty location. Salary: IRS (IR) Pay Band Locality Pay tables may be found under 2026 - IR Salary Tables. Alternative work schedules (5 days a week), staggered work hours or limited telework may be available. In the event that a building is closed due to rent management, new hires may be placed in a local commuting location. Obtain and use a Government-issued charge card for business-related travel. Relocation expenses: Yes - You may qualify for reimbursement of relocation expenses in accordance with agency policy. Moving expenses are authorized. Agree to work an average of two extra hours per day. Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP) has been approved to compensate for unscheduled duty in excess of the 40-hour workweek. The provisions of Treasury Directive 74-06 Home-to-Work Transportation Controls paragraph 3(d) require that special agents reside within 50 miles of their official duty station to be considered for Home-to-Work transportation (only granted/waived by Treasury). Signed Mobility Agreement This is a non-bargaining unit position. Tour of Duty: Day Shift These positions are Temporary NTE 1 Year, May Be Extended Up To 5 Years, May Be Made Permanent. While on the Temporary NTE 1 Year, you will remain assigned to your permanent post of duty and will be required to travel to a temporary CI duty location as needed. Travel and per diem are authorized. If the position becomes permanent, moving expenses may be authorized. Travel to a temporary CI duty location will be based on business needs, with consideration given to location preference(s). Though many locations may be listed, you will be limited to selecting a maximum of five (5) location preferences. Please consider each location preference carefully when applying.
