Schedule: Full Time Rotating Shifts (6am – 6pm OR 6pm – 6am)

Primary Responsibilities:
Provides direction and guidance to team members, guests, and patients. Counsels, coaches and evaluates subordinate personnel. Assists teams with de-escalating tense, uncertain and emotional situations and proactively works to prevent crime and safety incidents. Creates a safe healthcare environment for team members, patients, and guests. Serves as shift commander and supervises sergeants, police officers and Public Safety Officers. Issues work assignments and supervises work activities of all assigned personnel. Complete and approve work schedules to ensure proper shift coverage. Conducts rounding and foot and vehicle patrols in and around properties that are owned, leased, or occupied by IU Health. Responds to calls for service and investigates criminal activity and vehicle crashes as needed. Enforces and assists in the enforcement of IU Health rules, regulations, policies and state statutes. Maintains records and logs and completes written reports as required. Performs physical security screening as required. Assists other public safety agencies as needed. Responds to officers’ calls for assistance and assumes onscene command of critical incidents. Control and assess situations, identify appropriate actions to preserve crime scenes, compile critical information and coordinate activities with other jurisdictions. Acts in capacity of senior departmental officer in absence of more senior ranking officer. Performs other duties as assigned by the chain of command.

• Directly supervise Sergeant (if applicable) and officers during day-to-day operations on assigned shift, including the completion of reports and all various tasks and responsibilities. Police Officers, Public Safety Officers and Sergeants can be assigned to a Lieutenant.
• Counsels, coaches, and evaluates team members assigned to their shift and/or facility.
• Reviews case reports, PC affidavits, and any other documentation completed by assigned personnel for neatness, accuracy, and proper information. If issues are found with an officer’s report, they will be required to go over any problems or concerns with the officer.
• Issues tasks, post orders, or assignments to Sergeant (if applicable) and assigned officers.
• Completes and approves work schedules, and all Kronos administrative and management duties. Focus on ensuring proper officer coverage on assigned shift or assigned facility.
