Each applicant must have four years of experience in analytical chemistry, statistical analysis, microbiology, or data management related to the fields of chemistry or biology or two years of experience as a Senior Chemist with the City of Cincinnati. Additionally, each applicant must have a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, environmental chemistry, chemical engineering, biology, microbiology, biochemistry, scientific statistics, or a related field. A Master's Degree is preferred.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
May be required to have a valid Driver’s License.
Must be an excellent communicator and team builder.
Possession of an appropriate certification in water or wastewater treatment from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.
Positions in the Water Works Department: Must have or obtain within the first year a Class III Water Treatment Professional Operator Certification.
Positions in the Metropolitan Sewer District: Must have at least 24-college semester credit hours in chemistry and at least 2 years of experience in the testing or analysis of environmental samples in inorganic and organic chemistry. An earned master’s or doctoral degree in chemistry, biochemistry, physics, environmental science, biology, microbiology, physical sciences or engineering may be substituted for 1 year of experience.
Positions in the Health Department: Must have an Ohio Department of Health Alcohol Testing Permit and an Ohio Department of Health certification in dairy analysis.
MILITARY EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE EVALUATION
Military education and experience may be substituted for college level course work at the lower and upper division baccalaureate and graduate levels and apprenticeship training at the vocational certificate level on a case by case basis based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations.
Environmental Conditions: Indoor and outdoor environments; exposure to computer screens; exposure to industrial waste and toxic chemicals, fumes and solvents.

Manages and participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities; recommends and implements resulting policies and procedures; develops and implements a comprehensive quality assurance/quality control protocol to assure reliability and defensibility of data.
Plans, directs, coordinates, and reviews the work plan for the laboratories staff and assigned work activities, programs, and projects; assigns and monitors work flow; reviews and evaluates work products, methods, and procedures; meets with staff to identify and solve problems.
Selects, trains, motivates, and evaluates assigned personnel; provides or coordinates staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies; implements City and departmental human resources policies and procedures.
Oversees and participates in the development and administration of assigned program budget; forecasts funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitors approved expenditures; recommends and implements adjustments; monitors purchasing contracts.
Provides administrative and technical support to supervisor; participates on a variety of committees; prepares and presents staff reports and other correspondence as appropriate and necessary; reports requested data in a timely fashion.
Coordinates laboratories activities with those of other departments/divisions and outside agencies and organizations; serves as a liaison for the department with other agencies and utilities.
