Yacub Law Offices is seeking an experienced and dynamic Supervising Attorney – Removal Defense to lead and grow our Removal Defense Department. This is a senior leadership position for an attorney who combines exceptional litigation skills with a passion for mentoring attorneys, building systems, improving operational efficiency, and delivering outstanding client outcomes.

The Supervising Attorney will serve as the leader of the firm's removal defense practice and will be responsible for overseeing attorneys, paralegals, and support staff while directly handling the firm's most complex and high-stakes immigration court matters.

About the Role

This position combines litigation, leadership, training, and operational management. The successful candidate will establish legal strategy across the department, supervise legal teams, improve workflows, create training systems, and ensure that clients receive the highest level of representation.

The Supervising Attorney will work closely with firm leadership to build a scalable and highly effective removal defense practice while maintaining a commitment to excellence, accountability, and client service.

Key ResponsibilitiesLitigation and Client Representation
  • Serve as lead counsel in complex and high-stakes removal defense matters.
  • Represent clients before Immigration Courts, the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA), and other immigration-related forums.
  • Develop legal strategy for asylum, withholding of removal, CAT, cancellation of removal, adjustment of status, motions practice, appeals, and related matters.
  • Prepare clients and witnesses for hearings and testimony.
  • Review and approve litigation strategies for significant cases handled by associate attorneys.
  • Assist attorneys in resolving complex legal and procedural issues.
Department Leadership
  • Lead and manage the Removal Defense Department.
  • Supervise attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, and support staff.
  • Conduct weekly removal defense team meetings to review active cases, upcoming hearings, deadlines, litigation strategy, and operational priorities.
  • Establish departmental goals, expectations, and performance standards.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, collaboration, and client-centered advocacy.
Strategic Case Management
  • Establish and communicate clear strategic guidance on all removal defense matters.
  • Conduct regular case strategy reviews and audits.
  • Ensure consistency in legal arguments, litigation practices, and client representation across the department.
  • Monitor developments in immigration law and implement department-wide legal strategies as necessary.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor for attorneys handling difficult or novel legal issues.
Training and Professional Development
  • Create, maintain, and continuously update a comprehensive Removal Defense Training Manual.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and best practices for the department.
  • Design and implement onboarding programs for newly hired attorneys and staff.
  • Train, mentor, and develop attorneys, paralegals, and support personnel.
  • Conduct regular internal training sessions on substantive immigration law, litigation strategy, courtroom advocacy, ethics, and firm procedures.
  • Develop templates, litigation resources, and educational materials to support the legal team.
Workflow Development and Operational Excellence
  • Design and implement workflows within the firm's case management software.
  • Develop systems to improve case tracking, hearing preparation, filing accuracy, and client communication.
  • Identify and eliminate operational bottlenecks that delay case progression.
  • Create measurable performance metrics and workflow benchmarks.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership to improve efficiency, productivity, and client outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures and quality-control standards.
Practice Development
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding legal staff.
  • Evaluate staffing needs and recommend operational improvements.
  • Help build a scalable removal defense department capable of handling continued growth.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership on strategic planning and departmental expansion.
QualificationsRequired
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of immigration law experience, including substantial removal defense and immigration litigation experience.
  • Extensive experience representing clients before Immigration Courts and the Board of Immigration Appeals.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.
  • Exceptional legal writing, oral advocacy, and litigation skills.
  • Experience developing legal strategy in complex immigration matters.
  • Experience mentoring attorneys and legal staff.
  • Strong organizational, management, and communication skills.
Preferred
  • Prior experience with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), Office of Immigration Litigation (OIL), Board of Immigration Appeals, or other government immigration agencies.
  • Former Immigration Judge, Judicial Law Clerk, or government attorney experience.
  • Law Review, Law Journal, or significant legal publication experience.
  • Federal court litigation experience.
  • Experience creating training manuals, standard operating procedures, and workflow systems.
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities.
