Overview

Shimmick is seeking a highly talented Superintendent to be based in Chattanooga, TN. This challenging position will support installation of the miter gates and associated works related to the lock chamber on the Chickamauga Dam Project; a new 110-foot by 600-foot lock located downstream of Chickamauga Dam.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist Miter Gate Superintendent by leading multi-trade crews with installation of large steel structures (Culvert Valves and Miter Gates).
  • Ensure crews are performing work in accordance with D1.5 Standards and project specifications related to welding and structural steel assembly.
  • Communicate work plans with crew foremen
  • Participate in planning of work with superintendent for specific tasks and participate in coordination of work with other project operations
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with OSHA, USACE EM-385, company and project safety requirements.
  • Responsible for applicable documentation of work planned, performed, and completed.
  • Participation in other work as directed by project supervision
  • Resource Coordination: Ordering tools, materials, and equipment, and coordinating deliveries to ensure they arrive when needed.
  • Schedule Management: Developing, maintaining, and updating the project schedule (including 3-week "look-ahead" schedules).

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • HS or Equivalent + 6 years experience in field construction supervision including 2 years experience in the Assistant Superintendent position or demonstrated equivalent.
  • Experience in leading welding crews in assembly of large steel structures
  • Experience with AWS D1.5 specifications, standards, and procedures
  • Experience with multi-level structural steel assemblies
  • Working knowledge of rigging, hoisting, and crane usage for structural steel assembly (up to 300-ton capacity cranes and tower cranes)
  • Experience in heavy-civil construction projects
  • Must be detail oriented, thorough, well organized and have to ability to effectively manage time.
  • Ability to work in a high-paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan and supervise multiple tasks and operations
  • Demonstrated experience in structural work, including welding, mechanical alignment and material fit up.
  • Ability to understand construction drawings, specifications, QA/QC practices and industry standards
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to coordinate with multiple disciplines onsite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • USACE or similar Government work experience
  • 15 years of welding experience on structural steel projects
  • 5 to 10 years of supervision of structural steel crews
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • NCCER or AWS certifications

The salary range for this position is between $100,000 - $130,000per year depending on experience and/or education.
