Job Title: Waterfront Director


Mission: Grounded in a century of tradition, Pok-O-MacCready fosters personal growth by empowering campers to achieve independence, create lifelong friendships, and develop a deep appreciation of the natural world, in the Adirondacks and beyond.


Location: Willsboro, NY - Pok-O-MacCready is a 122-year-old coed camp for children aged 6-16.  Our campus consists of 400 acres of pristine wilderness on the shores of Long Pond in the Adirondack Park.  Campers have the opportunity to participate in a 2, 3, 4, or 7 week session.  Summer camp programs emphasize wilderness skills, horseback riding, traditional and non-traditional sports, creative arts, and community. Level of Position:  Full Time; Seasonal (June 18th – August 18th, 2026)


Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 21 years of age and able to work legally in the United States
  • Willing to be flexible, patient, kind, and hard working
  • Excellent teaching skills and a willingness to continue to improve and accept coaching
  • Self directed, with a desire to interact with and instruct children 
  • One season of experience as a camp aquatics director at a New York State children’s camp; OR
  • Two seasons of previous experience consisting of at least 12 weeks as a children’s camp lifeguard

which had more than one lifeguard supervising it at a time; OR

  • 18 weeks of previous experience as a lifeguard at a swimming pool or bathing beach, which had

more than one lifeguard supervising it at a time.

  • Ability to manage a lifeguarding staff
  • Have or, be willing to obtain prior to the start of camp, current Lifeguard Management and Progressive Swim Instructor certifications (or DOH approved equivalents)


Reports To: Executive Director | Supervises: Lifeguards and Swimming Instructors   


Description of Responsibilities 

  • 45% Teach swim classes, manage and mentor swimming instructors, and help to lead section and all-camp activities, including evening activities
  • 25% Supervise open swims and manage and mentor lifeguards
  • 10% Supervise campers during meals, at All-Camp Activities, and at night when On Duty
  • 5% Assess swim ability of all campers upon their arrival to camp
  • 10% Maintain swim docks and equipment per DOH and ACA standards. Responsible for the cleanliness of your cabin and program areas.  Role model an environmental ethic
  • 5% Other duties as assigned. May include facilities upkeep, landscaping, driving, dishwashing, etc 




Compensation and Benefits:  $4,350  for the summer camp season (June 18-August 18, 9 days of staff training included), plus full room, board, and laundry.  A dynamic and fun camp community.
