Climbing Director

The Climbing Director is responsible for ensuring that the climbing tower area at camp is operated safely and in accordance with quality standards. This position is responsible for providing safety and climbing instruction to youth participants. Previous experience in Scouting not required.

Location: Phillippo Scout Camp, Cannon Falls, MN (30654 32nd Ave Way, Cannon Falls, MN 55009 just 30 minutes south of the Twin Cities, MN.)

Qualifications/Certifications:

  • 21 years of age
  • Current Scouting America Climbing Level II Instructor certification or ability to attend training May 28th and May 29th at Base Camp, Fort Snelling, MN.

Position-specific Duties:

  • Ensures camp climbing program is run in accordance with Scouting America standards.
  • Coordinates set up, maintenance and operations of the climbing and bouldering programs.
  • Reviews, updates and/or creates outlines for climbing programs.
  • Teaches climbing rotation and other assigned advancement programs.
  • Trains the staff in proper climbing safety and climbing techniques.
  • Supervises staff assisting at the Climbing Tower to run the tower efficiently, safely and in accordance with Scouting America standards.
  • Leads all activities occurring at the climbing tower or bouldering wall.
  • Maintains inventory and coordinates check-in/check-out of all area equipment to protect against equipment misuse, damage and loss. Informs the Camp Director of equipment to be ordered or repaired.
  • Ensures completion of area checkout procedures at the conclusion of each day.
  • Assists in camp-wide activities such as other merit badges, saunas, campfires, swim qualifications, equipment issue and physical projects.

Season Length:June 11th – August 19th

Compensation:Salary starts at $4500 for the season. On-site lodging and food provided - candidates are required to live on-site.College aged staff may receive up to a $1500 scholarship for the completion of a full summer season.
