Summer BotaniCamp Teacher The mission of the Houston Botanic Garden is to enrich life through discovery, education, and conservation of plants and the natu ral environment. HBG strives to inspire all people to love plants and be good stewards of the natural world. The gardens include a global garden with arid, sub - tropical, and tropical plants; a culinary garden with permanent and seasonal displays; a family garden centered aro und a lagoon; a woodland event garden; wetlands; and a coastal prairie on a 132-acre site. HBG is seeking two seasonal, part -time Summer Camp Teachers for BotaniCamp, our 6 ‑week nature -based summer camp for children. Teachers play a vital role in delivering safe, engaging, and memorable experiences rooted in outdoor learning. BotaniCamp Teachers are responsible for leading daily camp operations, engaging campers ages 5–11, and creating a fun, welcoming, and educational environment. Ideal candidates are enthusiastic, dependable, and comfortable working outdoors during Houston’s summer months. Teachers must be available for all 6 weeks of camp and will work 1 –2 after -care shifts per week. Camp Weeks (Required) : • June 15 – June 19 • June 22 – June 26 • July 6 – July 10 • July 13 – July 17 • July 27 – July 31 • August 3 – August 7 • Mandatory training and certification: June 1 –5 and/or June 8 –12 Main Job Responsibilities: • Engage campers in a positive, developmentally appropriate manner. • Communicate with parents and guardians professionally and warmly. • Collaborate with the Youth & Family Programs team and oversee BotaniCamp Summer Camp Counselors. • Support setup, organization, and cleanup of classroom materials and activities. • Lead lessons and group activities with support from Counselors. • Use varied teaching strategies to deliver nature - and STEM -based content. • Ensure camper safety through active supervision and consistent behavior management. • Escort and supervise groups during transitions, including walks throughout the Garden. • Lead after -care activities for campers enrolled 2:00 –5:00 PM. • Assist with additional tasks needed to support overall camp operations. Qualifications and Experience Requirements: • Classroom teaching o r assistant teaching experience • Comfort teaching a range of nature - and STEM -based lessons • Knowledge of plants, ecology, outdoor ed ucation, or science instruction • Ability to work outdoors in Houston’s summer climate. • Ability to maintain a warm, positive environment while managing group expectations. • Strong reliability, teamwork, and communication skills. • Must be 18 years or older by June 1, 2026. • Experience working with children ( specifically grades K –5) in informal educatio n, camps, or childcare settings preferred. • Prior experience in summer camp, after -school programs, or nature centers preferred. • Bilingual (Span ish-English or other languages) preferred. Physi cal Demands : • Physical stamina to be outdoors standing/walking on different kinds of terrain (gravel path, concrete, rock pathways, etc.) for up to 5 hours a day, in all kinds of weather, including very warm, humid conditions. • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Schedule and Salary : • Camp Hours: Monday –Friday, 8:00 AM –2:00 PM • After -Care: Monday –Friday, 2:00 –5:00 PM (1 –2 shifts/week) • Status: Seasonal, Part -Time • Compensation: $ 17-$19/hour , based on experience • Start Date: June 1 or June 8, 2026 (includes training) • End Date: August 7, 2026 Application Procedure : Interested candidates should send a resume and cover letter to hr@hbg.org.
