100% Remote | Substation Engineer

Design High‑Impact Utility Substations—From Anywhere

We’re hiring a Substation Engineer to support and deliver utility substation design projects from concept through completion. This role is 100% remote and open to candidates with solid tenure and hands‑on substation design experience, including those who enjoy owning technical work, collaborating with project teams, and contributing to safe, reliable power infrastructure.

Whether you’re an experienced individual contributor or someone who naturally takes initiative on projects, this role offers flexibility, technical variety, and exposure to large‑scale utility systems.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Support and contribute to utility substation projects from early concept through final design and construction support
  • Develop project scopes, one‑line diagrams, and cost estimates for substation work
  • Review and support substation construction drawings, including:
    • Electrical arrangements
    • Plans and section views
    • Grounding, lightning protection, cable, and conduit drawings
  • Assist with engineering and design of grounding systems, lightning protection, and equipment replacements or upgrades
  • Update drawings and documentation to reflect design changes, field conditions, and evolving project requirements
  • Verify accurate selection and application of substation equipment and materials
  • Coordinate with internal teams and clients to support schedules, technical needs, and project execution
  • Participate in site walkdowns (as needed) to gather field data and support accurate designs
  • Apply relevant electrical codes, standards, and utility requirements to substation designs
  • Contribute to high‑quality engineering deliverables and consistent design practices

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong tenure in substation engineering or substation design within the utility industry
  • Proven experience working on substation projects from design through execution
  • Background in physical substation design and electrical engineering principles
  • Experience reviewing or producing substation construction drawings
  • Ability to interpret and apply electrical codes, standards, and technical specifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engineers, designers, and clients
  • Clear communication skills and attention to detail

PE license is not required. Candidates with solid experience, stability, and hands‑on substation design backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with transmission‑related substation projects
  • Exposure to utility standards and design practices
  • Experience supporting material selection, estimating, or procurement
  • Interest in mentoring or supporting the development of junior engineers

Why This Role

  • 100% remote flexibility
  • Work on meaningful utility infrastructure projects
  • Stable, long‑term project pipeline
  • Collaborative engineering environment without rigid hierarchy
  • Opportunity to deepen technical expertise while maintaining work‑life balance

Work Environment

This role is primarily remote within a collaborative engineering organization. You’ll work closely with engineers and designers in a professional, team‑oriented setting. Occasional site visits may be required to support design development and field verification.
