Studio Manager (Salon) – Waxing the City

📍 Seattle, WA (Ballard) 1545 NW Market St

Full-Time | Hourly, Non-Exempt (Overtime Eligible)

$30–$34/hour base pay, plus tips, commission, and performance bonus
On-target total earnings: $75,000–$95,000+ annually (including tips, commission, and bonus)

About Us

At Waxing the City, we deliver top-quality waxing services in a clean, professional, and welcoming environment. Our Ballard studio has been serving a loyal client base for nearly 10 years, with a strong team culture built around consistency, client care, and performance.

We’re looking for an experienced Studio Manager to lead this established location into its next phase of growth.

The Role

This is a hands-on leadership role in a well-established, high-performing studio. You’ll balance time between supporting the team on the floor and ensuring smooth day-to-day execution of the business.

  • Approximately 50% on the floor (services/front desk support)
  • Approximately 50% operations, team leadership, and execution

This role is designed for a manager who can drive consistency, reinforce standards, and improve results—not build systems from scratch.

Compensation & Bonus Structure

  • $30–$34/hour base pay (overtime eligible)
  • Additional earnings through tips and commission during floor time
  • Managers are scheduled on the floor approximately 50% of the time

👉 Typical total earnings: $75,000–$95,000+ annually (includes tips, commission, and bonus)

Performance bonus is based on studio results and key business metrics and is not guaranteed. High-performing managers can exceed the typical earnings range based on results.

Benefits

  • 2 weeks paid vacation
  • 7 paid holidays (provided for this full-time management role)
  • 401(k) with company match (4% on first 5%)
  • 40% retail discount
  • Free waxing services + discounts for friends and family
  • Free parking in Ballard

Work Schedule Expectations

This role is designed around approximately 40 hours per week, with flexibility to adjust scheduling based on business needs.

Managers are expected to:

  • Adjust schedules to support peak business periods
  • Balance floor and administrative responsibilities
  • Manage time proactively to avoid unnecessary overtime
  • Accurately record all hours worked in accordance with company policy

What You’ll Own (Primary Responsibilities)

Studio Operations & Standards

  • Ensure the studio runs smoothly day-to-day
  • Maintain high standards for cleanliness, organization, and client experience
  • Manage inventory and supplies

Team Leadership & Daily Execution

  • Lead daily check-ins and reinforce expectations with the team
  • Provide real-time coaching and feedback on the floor
  • Support performance reviews and hiring in partnership with ownership
  • Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and consistency

Client Experience & Issue Resolution

  • Address client concerns quickly and professionally
  • Ensure service recovery is handled effectively
  • Maintain a strong, consistent client experience

Administrative & Reporting

  • Oversee daily closeouts and operational reporting
  • Monitor membership and service activity reports
  • Ensure accuracy and follow-through on key operational tasks

On the Floor (≈50%)

  • Support services and front desk during peak hours
  • Deliver exceptional client experience and set service standards
  • Reinforce rebooking, loyalty program sales, and retail through client interaction

Additional Responsibilities (Structured & Limited Scope)

Social Media Oversight (Not Content Creation)

  • Provide guidance and feedback on content created by the team
  • Ensure alignment with in-studio promotions and client experience
  • Collaborate with team members responsible for content execution

Community & Local Outreach (Light Focus)

  • Support local relationship-building with nearby businesses
  • Participate in occasional outreach or partnership efforts
  • Focus on a small number of consistent, high-quality connections

What We’re Looking For

  • Active Washington State Esthetician or Cosmetology license required
  • 2+ years leadership experience in a salon, spa, or service-based business
  • Proven ability to drive team performance and accountability
  • Comfortable working on the floor while leading a team
  • Organized, consistent, and results-oriented

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Top-tier earning potential for a working manager in Seattle
  • Strong base pay plus consistent additional earnings from floor time
  • Bonus structure rewards performance and improvement—not just maintaining volume
  • Established, high-performing location with a loyal client base
  • 401(k) match (rare in this industry)
  • Clear expectations and well-defined scope
  • Opportunity to grow within a nationally recognized brand
