Student - SLWC Fitness Instructor

The Student Life & Wellness Center (SLWC) is seeking energetic Fitness Instructors. The instructor must be high energy, motivating, and a relationship builder who will help others reach their goals through exercise while having fun.Group Fitness Instructors are responsible for leading and delivering group fitness instruction ranging in variety and level from aerobic activity, muscular strength, stretch, dance, yoga, or mind body disciplines. This includes developing and organizing choreography, movement sequencing and progression, cueing participants, set up, safety, execution, and more.
  • Leads energizing, fun, safe, welcoming and educational group fitness classes.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with members, helps others connect with one another, and with the UVU community.
  • Prepares and maintains appropriate equipment, storage areas, music, and handouts for each class.
  • Keeps management informed of customer and facility needs.
  • Keeps accurate class attendance records.
  • Must be a current UVU student.
  • Certified fitness instructor certification (AFAA, NETA, ACE, Fitour etc.) or a specialized fitness certification (Zumba, Les Mills, Yoga, Barre, etc.)
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications or within one semester of hire date
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology, and training principles.
  • Knowledge of group fitness teaching strategies and the incorporation of music, tempo, cueing technique, and rhythm.
  • Knowledge of programs and services in the Student Life and Wellness Center.
  • Knowledge of methods for promoting and increasing fitness in patrons.
  • Skills in interpersonal communication and presenting, particularly with large groups.
  • Skills in methods of promoting and increasing fitness in patrons.
  • Organization and Time management skills.
  • Ability to multitask and independently time manage.
  • Ability to teach the specified fitness class and cater to individual and group needs.
  • Ability to facilitate a positive and inclusive fitness environment.
  • Ability to motivate class participants.
  • Ability to cooperate and work well with other staff members.
