Duties and Responsibilities (* denotes essential functions)

  1. *Reports to the Chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering and performs tasks for the chair as requested.
  2. *Provide student services/administrative support of daily functions including tracking graduate students' records, updating grades, advising/counseling students, and assisting faculty/students with admission offices/record keeping process.
  3. *Coordinate the student inquiry and admission process by monitoring receipt of admission and related documents, prepares information for faculty assessment, and maintains data files for inquiries.
  4. *Responsible for scheduling academic advising appointments for students.
  5. *Position is responsible for working with banner and star systems for updating and maintaining the student academic records.
  6. *Assist with evaluation of academic actions, graduation checks, and related counseling.
  7. *Assist with the compilation of research, analysis, and studies of student data for trend identification and forecasting purposes.
  8. *Schedule rooms and classes for the department including maintaining records for key distribution and door codes.
  9. *Assist with recruitment and outreach activities including new student orientation and freshman introduction and retention programs.
  10. Supervise clerical staff and student assistants.
  11. *Assist the students, faculty, staff, and visitors with any questions they may have.
  12. Troubleshoot problems such as resolving conflicts, coordinating the work of others, and interpreting policy to determine the best approach to problems.
  13. *Responsible for maintaining the departments office supplies, mail room, and copy machine.
  14. Assist departments due to staffing shortages, when necessary.
  15. *Process fiscal documents for UH Foundation accounts.
  16. Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in business administration, education counseling, or related field and 1 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for business administration, education counseling; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in business administration and education counseling as demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology.
  3. Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with business administration and education counseling.
  4. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the business administration and education counseling.
  5. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
  7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
Desirable Qualifications
  1. Strong interest in working with engineering students, faculty and staff.
  2. Familiarity with engineering curricula and accreditation requirements.
