Student Leadership Coordinator – University Housing - UTK

The Student Leadership Coordinator is responsible for advising and supporting the residence hall student leadership structure, including the United Residence Halls Council (URHC) and the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) chapter. This role provides leadership development, organizational advising, program support, and administrative oversight to ensure that student-led initiatives enhance the residential experience. The coordinator works closely with Residence Life staff, student leaders, and campus partners to develop programs, leadership opportunities, and engagement initiatives that strengthen community and student success within the residential environment.

ADVISING

  • Serve as the primary advisor for URHC and NRHH, supporting executive boards in leadership development and organizational operations
  • Attend weekly executive board meetings and general body meetings for both organizations. Hold regular one-on-one meetings with student leaders, including the URHC President and NRHH leadership team
  • Provide guidance on strategic planning, leadership development, program implementation, and organizational governance
  • Support and oversee fundraising initiatives
  • Assist with delegation planning and advising for regional and national residence hall leadership conferences including: National Association of College and University Residence Halls (NACURH), South Atlantic Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls (SAACURH), and Tennessee Association of Residence Halls (TARH)
  • Support the selection, preparation, and advising of conference delegations. 

 

PROGRAMMING

  • Facilitate leadership development opportunities for residence hall student leaders
  • Coordinate semester leadership retreats and strategic planning sessions for URHC and NRHH
  • Support student leaders in planning and implementing campus-wide residential programming
  • Coordinate major initiatives, including Welcome Week programming in the residence halls, Residence hall leadership training, and Hall officer training each fall
  • Collaborate with Residence Life staff to integrate leadership initiatives with residential curriculum and engagement efforts

 

ADMINISTRATIVE/BUDGETING/ASSESSMENT

  • Maintain regular office hours to support student leaders
  • Provide weekly or biweekly updates to departmental leadership
  • Attend departmental staff meetings and training sessions
  • Support training for residence hall staff (RAs, Hall Directors, etc.)
  • Maintain communication with campus partners and external vendors supporting student programs
  • Advise student leaders in managing organizational budgets
  • Oversee financial processes including: reimbursements, advance funding requests, and budget reconciliations
  • Maintain accurate financial records in collaboration with the Student Organizations Business Office
  • Ensure up-to-date budget documentation in departmental systems (e.g., SharePoint)
  • Assess learning outcomes of events, programs, and services by utilizing technology such as Campus Labs
  • Compile program/event statistics each semester for annual report

 

CONDUCT/AREA COVERAGE

  • Know all conduct processes and familiarize yourself with all residence halls in your area
  • Understand how to initiate a search, call for authorization, conduct a search, and how to document a search on an incident report to be given to the Hall Director within 24 hours of the incident's occurrence
  • Confront policy violations in the residence halls and document appropriately
  • Ensure that an incident report is submitted immediately after an incident occurs. Know and understand the protocol system
  • Always call and keep the appropriate individuals on the protocol list informed of major situations in the residence halls or those that arise during an area coverage response
  • Works in cooperation with other Head Staff to provide 24-hour on-call Area Coverage and is available to work in halls that remain open during university breaks.

 

OTHER

  • Represent the office at Division of Student Life events
  • Serve on various campus committees to support current and the development of new programs and resources for all student populations
  • Engage in professional development activities/trainings to maintain current higher education practice
  • Work with department buyers to secure contractual obligations
  • Support division and university strategic initiatives and priorities
  • Other duties as assigned
