LCCC Student Ambassadors serve as campus tour guides and are responsible for creating an exciting, informative, and memorable tour experience for all students. Student Ambassadors also lead students through enrollment processes, and provide excellent customer service to students and the community at large via phone, email, and in-person service while working at the front desk of the Enrollment Services office or events. Student Ambassadors assist prospective and current students in LCCC enrollment processes, provide essential support to the Enrollment Services department, help new students acclimate and transition, provide support at campus-wide events, and promote the image of Laramie County Community College and the LCCC experience to students, faculty, staff, and the community. This is a front-facing position requiring skill and comfort with interpersonal interactions with a wide variety of people. Student Ambassadors are the face of LCCC and are often the first person with whom a student or prospective student might interact.

The Student Ambassador is a part-time, non-benefitted, and temporary student position that is open to eligible students. Eligible students must be enrolled in 6 or more credit hours and be in good academic standing. Federal Work Study eligible students are encouraged to apply. LCCC Dual Enrollment students are eligible to apply.

Performance will be evaluated at the end of every semester, and eligible Ambassadors may be renewed with supervisor approval. Though a maximum of 4 semesters as a Student Ambassador will be the norm, in some circumstances the maximum may be increased dependent upon the student’s continued enrollment and job performance.

Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need.

Compensation: $15.03/hr.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:this position isnon-exemptandiseligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA. This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative, other duties may be assigned).
  • Provide engaging, informative, dynamic campus tours to prospective students, families, community members, and employment candidates of LCCC
  • Serve as an initial point-of-contact for students, prospective students, families, employees, and community members/visitors seeking general information or assistance in the areas of Enrollment Services and Student Services in general. This includes in-person assistance and telephone inquiries, using a multi-line telephone system
  • Exercise professionalism and courtesy, and provide excellent customer service at all times in line with the department’s expectations, which includes: an active focus and awareness of work surroundings; providing proactive service by greeting and approaching visitors to offer assistance; active listening skills; and critical thinking and problem-solving in order to best direct students to the appropriate resources or assistance
  • Be knowledgeable about college services, resources, programs, procedures, and academic offerings to provide information, and referrals for students, prospective students, families, employees, and community members/visitors
  • Maintain high proficiency in utilizing, learning about, and being an early adopter in LCCC technology resources and systems (including the student portal and the functions/transactions within it)
  • Maintain a welcoming and clean environment within the work area and around campus as appropriate, conducive to providing prospective students with a great first impression at LCCC and indicative of the quality of LCCC’s service and programs
  • Positively portray the LCCC experience, including participation in campus outreach and marketing efforts for recruitment, and contributing and interacting positively and persuasively with new and prospective students and their families
  • Provide organizational and administrative support to all areas within Enrollment Services as needed, and occasionally other campus offices
  • Serve as a positive role model for prospective and current students and the community
  • Be reliable, flexible, and punctual
  • Present themselves professionally, to include professional attire during work hours (LCCC attire or business casual attire).
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
  • There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations
  • While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
  • There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
  • An employee must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds to perform essential position functions.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be instances of somewhat loud environments.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. (with exception of eligible LCCC Dual Enrollment students)
  • Admission at LCCC and continued enrollment in a minimum of 6 credits a semester in good academic standing. (Exceptions may be given for summer term with supervisor approval. GPA will be checked each semester
  • Ability to be a reliable team member and maintain a regular schedule (determined on a semester-by-semester basis).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with public speaking/presenting
  • Experience in a professional office setting including answering/providing service via telephone
  • 6 months experience in a front-facing customer service position
