Structural Steel Detailer

Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Structural Steel Detailer to join our team. This role involves creating accurate models and detailed fabrication drawings for structural steel components, as well as reviewing and checking drawings for quality, accuracy, and compliance with project specifications and industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop models and detailed shop drawings using specialized software for structural steel projects.
  • Interpret architectural and structural drawings to produce accurate steel detailing.
  • Review and check drawings created by other detailers for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project requirements.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and fabricators to resolve design and detailing issues.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client specifications.
  • Maintain organized records of revisions and drawing logs.
  • Participate in internal quality control processes and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in structural steel detailing with the ability to check other detailers' drawings for inaccuracies.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the field.
  • Proficiency in specialized software for steel detailing.
  • Ability to review drawings and provide solutions to issues.
  • Capability to attend onsite meetings as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in design review and checking.
  • Familiarity with structural design, detailing, and steel erection.

Why Apply?

  • High‑impact role with ownership – Serve as the go‑to checker for steel detailing, reviewing and ensuring accuracy of drawings produced by outsourced detailers
  • Tekla-focused work on real fabrication projects, with flexibility for candidates who may need a refresher
  • Growth and career pathway – Opportunity to expand into leadership or operations management over time
  • Family‑owned company culture – Flexible scheduling and genuine support for work–life balance
  • Direct collaboration with project managers, engineers, and the fabrication shop — your work goes straight to production
  • Field exposure included – Occasional site visits and measurements to stay connected to the work
  • Company truck provided for site visits
  • Hands‑on but not siloed – Wear multiple hats and influence how projects are executed

Work Environment

The office is spacious, offering a desk area with three monitors. You will work closely with project managers and the shop team on fabrications. The role involves leadership over outsourced detailing and may transition into operations management. Expect some field visits for measurements or client meetings, with a company vehicle provided for site visits. While the office is not fancy, it provides a functional workspace conducive to collaboration and productivity.
