Position Summary:
We are seeking a Structural Engineer (SE) to lead the design and review of engineered wood component systems, including roof and floor trusses.
This role is responsible for final engineering review and sealing of designs, ensuring compliance with applicable building codes and design standards across multiple jurisdictions. The position offers a unique opportunity to focus on high-volume structural system design with streamlined project cycles and a high degree of technical ownership.
The engineer in this role will play a key part in maintaining engineering quality, supporting internal teams, and contributing to the development of design standards and engineering tools.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide final engineering review and seal (stamp) for truss design drawings in accordance with applicable state requirements
Evaluate structural systems, including load paths, connection behavior, and overall stability of component designs
Review and approve designs prepared by engineers, designers, and technicians for technical accuracy and code compliance
Apply engineering judgment to non-standard conditions, repairs, and moderately complex structural scenarios
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering staff
Support internal and external stakeholders by addressing design questions, special loading conditions, and project-specific requirements
Contribute to the development and refinement of engineering standards, general notes, and best practices
Collaborate with software development teams to support and improve proprietary design tools
Qualifications
Active Structural Engineer (SE) license, OR Professional Engineer (PE) actively working to obtain an SE license within a defined timeframe
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline (structural emphasis preferred)
Strong knowledge of structural analysis, load path behavior, and connection design
Working knowledge of applicable building codes (IBC/IRC) and industry standards
Ability to independently evaluate and approve structural designs
Preferred Experience
Experience with light-frame wood design, trusses, or component-based structural systems
Familiarity with high-volume or production-based engineering environments
Experience mentoring or reviewing the work of other engineers
Compensation Information:
Certain states require that pay information be included in job postings. The specific hiring rate within the posted pay range will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications, prior experience, and the geographic location. For example, in Illinois, the pay rate will be between $75,000 - $120,000 (high level of experience).
