THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a Structural Engineer with experience in existing buildings, structural assessments, and building rehabilitation to support a large, geographically diverse multifamily portfolio (100+ properties).

This role is ideal for a Structural Engineer, Building Engineer, or Forensic Engineer with hands-on field experience in residential, multifamily, or light commercial buildings. You will lead structural issue resolution, repair design, and rehabilitation projects, supporting upgrades, infill projects, and capital improvements across the portfolio.

The Structural Engineer acts as the key technical bridge between operations, asset management, and construction teams, ensuring safe, compliant, and cost-effective structural solutions.

**This position includes 20% travel to the different properties, including overnight**

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES� �

Structural Assessment & Issue Resolution

  • Investigate and assess structural issues in existing multifamily and residential buildings
  • Conduct site visits to evaluate conditions and document structural deficiencies�
  • Develop recommendations for structural repairs and remediation

Repair, Rehabilitation & Infill Projects

  • Develop conceptual structural designs and repair solutions
  • Provide constructability input for building rehabilitation projects
  • Review contractor means and methods for structural repairs
  • Support project phasing strategies to minimize resident disruption

Due Diligence & Risk Evaluation

  • Perform structural due diligence for acquisitions and portfolio reviews
  • Translate technical findings into clear risk assessments and budget implications
  • Evaluate temporary works, including shoring and bracing plans

Consultant & Contractor Coordination

  • Lead structural issues from identification through design and delivery
  • Prepare stamped structural drawings, specifications, and repair details
  • Review third-party engineering reports, drawings, and recommendations
  • Support construction teams during execution, including RFIs and site visits
  • Review shop drawings and submittals for structural compliance
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure adherence to design intent

Construction Documentation & Standards

  • Review construction-ready structural drawings and specifications
  • Develop standardized repair details and specifications for recurring issues
  • Maintain documentation for common structural repairs (e.g., balconies, stairs)

Capital Planning & Portfolio Support

  • Support long-term capital planning and asset management strategies
  • Identify recurring structural issues across the portfolio
  • Contribute to building condition assessments and root cause analysis

CANDIDATE PROFILE� � � � � �

Required Qualifications�

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng. or PE) license
  • 4–8 years of experience in structural engineering
  • Experience working with existing buildings (rehabilitation, repair, or assessment)
  • Experience performing structural inspections and site assessments
  • Experience preparing structural drawings, specifications, and repair details
  • Experience working with contractors, consultants, and inspectors
  • Ability to communicate technical findings to non-technical stakeholders
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% across a property portfolio

Preferred Qualifications�

  • Experience with multifamily, residential, or light commercial buildings
  • Experience in building rehabilitation or structural repair projects
  • Experience with forensic engineering or condition assessments
  • Experience supporting capital projects or asset management initiatives
  • Experience working on infill or renovation projects
  • Knowledge of building codes and structural compliance requirements
