We’re looking for someone to join our Public Works team as a Streets Maintenance & Operations Specialist, supporting the construction, repair, and maintenance of City streets, rights-of-way, drainage systems, and related public infrastructure. In this role, you’ll operate a wide range of medium to heavy-duty equipment, perform skilled maintenance tasks, assist with traffic control, and help ensure safe and efficient work zones. This position works under the supervision of the Street Maintenance Operations Supervisor, Crew Leader, or a designated lead worker, and may provide direction to others during assigned maintenance activities.
About You:You’re a skilled equipment operator who takes pride in quality work, safe practices, and keeping your community’s streets in top shape. You’re comfortable operating machinery, working outdoors in all conditions, and supporting a team during fast-paced maintenance and construction activities.
High school diploma or GED.
Four years of experience operating medium or heavy equipment, with at least two years related to street or utility systems.
Skill in safely operating assigned equipment, troubleshooting issues, maintaining tools, performing manual labor, and providing customer service.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, communicate professionally, work cooperatively with others, and perform heavy physical tasks in varying weather conditions.
Valid Arizona Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B or ability to obtain within 6 months.
Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed.
NIMS participation may be required depending on assignment.
Operate Medium–Heavy Equipment (50%)Operate a variety of medium and heavy-duty equipment, such as graders, loaders, dump trucks, patch trucks, sweepers, rollers, and backhoes to safely complete street and drainage maintenance tasks, including hauling materials and transporting equipment.
Street & Drainage Maintenance (30%)Perform tasks such as pothole patching, shoveling, raking, weed removal, cleaning drainage ditches and storm drain structures, and assisting with signs, markings, Blue Staking, and other street-related activities.
Traffic Control Support (10%)Set up and remove temporary traffic control devices and provide flagging and traffic direction at work zones, accidents, and special events.
Equipment Inspection & Care (10%)Complete pre- and post-trip inspections, perform routine preventive maintenance, clean equipment, and report repair needs. Assist coworkers with safe backing and equipment operation.
