Position Summary


The Sterile Processing Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD), ensuring surgical instruments and medical equipment are properly cleaned, assembled, sterilized, and distributed to support patient care. This role provides leadership to SPD staff, maintains compliance with hospital and regulatory standards, and serves as a key resource for the Operating Room and other clinical departments.


Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily sterile processing operations, including decontamination, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of instruments.
  • Lead and support SPD technicians by providing training, coaching, and daily work assignments.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection prevention standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with staff scheduling, onboarding, and ongoing training.
  • Coordinate repairs and replacement of damaged instruments and equipment.
  • Monitor quality processes and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with the Operating Room and other departments to ensure timely instrument availability.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and support audit readiness.


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Sterile Processing experience.
  • At least 1 year of leadership, lead, or supervisory experience in SPD.
  • Active CBSPD or HSPA (IAHCSMM) certification required, or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • Strong knowledge of sterile processing procedures, surgical instruments, and sterilization methods.
  • Experience with instrument tracking systems preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

  • Experience supporting Operating Room teams.
  • Knowledge of Lean principles and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong customer service and team-building skills.
