About the Role:The Southside STEM Station is a learning lab located on Chicago’s South Side dedicated to expanding access to quality STEM programming for Southside youth and communities. We offer various programs, including in-school, after-school, and summer programs, as well as teacher professional development and STEM family engagement events, all at of cost.
We are seeking a dynamic, organized, and community-minded Lead Instructor to head our STEM workshops. You will lead workshops and activities both at the STEM Station and at various local schools. This role is perfect for someone looking to expand on their teaching experience and who is passionate about making STEM accessible and exciting to all.
The position is part-time, starting off with 10 hours per week. Flexible Monday to Friday between the hours of 9:00am - 2:00pm as well as some after school hours.The role is onsite in Chicago (Hyde Park), IL USA.
What You’ll Do:- Instructional Leadership: Lead and teach engaging STEM workshops for diverse student groups on-site and at partner schools, focusing on grades 4 to 12, with a strong emphasis on middle school.
- Curriculum Development: Collaborate to co-design new lessons, hands-on activities, and STEM challenges that align with our mission.
- Classroom Management: Maintain a productive, safe, and inclusive learning environment using culturally sensitive teaching practices.
- Program Coordination: Manage administrative duties, including direct communication with school leaders for program scheduling and logistics.
- Collaboration: Work alongside and mentor interns who assist in activity facilitation.
- Logistics: Prepare, transport, and set up equipment/supplies for on and off-site sessions.

- Communication & Organization: Excellent written and verbal communication skills paired with strong organizational abilities.
- STEM Fluency: A strong understanding of STEM content and a willingness to learn unfamiliar content areas.
- Cultural Competency: Experience working with diverse student backgrounds and a commitment to equitable, culturally sensitive teaching practices.
- Tech Savvy: Proficiency with common computer tasks and software including Google Workspace and Microsoft 365.
- Collaboration: A proactive willingness to work and collaborate with others, including interns.
- Physical & Logistics: Must have reliable transportation and the ability to lift and transport up to 30 lbs. of supplies for off-site sessions.
- Schedule: Availability during school days from 9:00am – 2:00pm, as well as some after-school hours with some flexibility to work around your schedule.
- Technical (plus): Understanding of various STEM disciplines such as life sciences, electronics, coding, physics, 3D modeling/3D printing, and circuitry a plus.
- Hands-on Learning (plus): Experience implementing Project-Based Learning and leading inquiry-based workshops for young people.

CBRE carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate’s education, training, and experience. The minimum base salary for the STEM Lead Instructor is $25/hour and the maximum base salary is $30/hour. The compensation that is offered to a successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience.
