These positions are assigned to the Early Education Center and support the educational, social, and emotional development of students who are Blind/Visually Impaired (BVI), including students with additional disabilities such as emotional/behavioral, learning, physical/medical, and/or cognitive needs. The role ensures a safe and supportive learning environment across campus and in community-based settings.
State Teacher Aides (Paraprofessionals) provide direct support to students and teachers under the direction of licensed teaching staff. Responsibilities include assisting with classroom instruction through the implementation of lesson plans, utilizing effective teaching strategies and instructional aids, and working with students in one-to-one and small group settings based on Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives.
This role supports behavior management, including responding to aggressive or non-compliant behaviors, to maintain a safe learning environment. Additional responsibilities include assisting with classroom operations, administrative tasks, and supporting preschool students with self-help skills, including diapering.
JOB FUNCTIONS• Provide instructional support to students in one-to-one and small group settings aligned with IEP goals and objectives
• Assist teachers with lesson implementation, instructional materials, and classroom activities
• Apply behavior management strategies under the direction of teaching staff or program leadership
• Support students with self-help and daily living skills, including toileting and diapering as needed
• Collaborate with teachers and staff to prepare instructional materials and classroom resources
• Assist with daily and weekly classroom cleaning and duties required for preschool licensure compliance
• Supervise students during lunch, snack times, transitions, and transportation to and from buses
• Monitor student safety and provide support across classroom and school environments
• Provide classroom coverage and monitor students during brief teacher absences
• Participate in team meetings, trainings, and professional development activities
• Perform administrative support tasks including filing, copying, and organizing instructional materials
• Utilize communication systems (phone, email, intercom) to relay information to staff, students, and families
• Support planning and execution of classroom activities, special projects, field trips, and parent engagement events
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary staff to support student success across settings
• Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience:Associate’s degree from an accredited institution in a field of study related to the work assignment
Two (2) years of study at an accredited institution (equivalent to 48 semester hours) will substitute for the degree requirement
Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics through a formal state or local academic assessment (e.g., ACT WorkKeys) will substitute for the degree requirement, but a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is required if using this substitution
