Location: Regional assignment with extensive travel


Position Overview

The State Coordinator serves as MCEC's strategic representative and relationship builder within assigned state and regional military-connected communities, leading comprehensive initiatives that advance military child education through policy advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and program implementation. This role combines executive-level relationship building with operational oversight to ensure MCEC's programs reach maximum impact while building sustainable partnerships that support organizational growth and influence. 

Working as the primary face of MCEC within the assigned region, the State Coordinator builds trust-based relationships with government officials, education leaders, military installation commanders, and community stakeholders while working with the Director of Program Implementation to coordinate local implementation efforts. This position requires diplomatic skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to balance multiple complex initiatives while maintaining accountability to diverse stakeholders and funding partners. 

Success in this role directly contributes to MCEC's state-level influence and sustainable expansion while ensuring military-connected students and families receive comprehensive support through coordinated community efforts and strategic partnerships. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as MCEC's primary representative and strategic leader within assigned state/region, building relationships with governors' offices, state education agencies, legislative leaders, and military officials 
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive stakeholder networks including education leaders, business executives, civic organizations, and military installation leadership 
  • Lead policy advocacy efforts by consulting with state and local officials on legislation, regulations, and policies affecting military-connected students 
  • Coordinate multi-agency collaboration between state government, education systems, and military installations to address systemic challenges facing military families 
  • Represent MCEC at high-level meetings, conferences, and events while positioning the organization as the premier authority on military child education


Program Implementation & Oversight 

  • Work with the Director of Implementation to expand MCEC programs and services throughout assigned region, ensuring quality delivery and measurable impact 
  • Supervise and lead Community Coordinators to ensure service delivery 
  • Oversee school readiness initiatives and capacity-building programs, working with districts to identify needs and provide tailored support 
  • Coordinate with Director of Implementation all training delivery and professional development initiatives across diverse settings including schools, military installations, and community organizations 
  • Ensure all program implementation meets contractual requirements while maintaining MCEC's reputation for excellence and reliability 


Business Development & Sustainability 

  • Identify and develop new partnership opportunities with state agencies, foundations, corporations, and military organizations that advance mission goals 
  • Support proposal development and funding acquisition by providing market intelligence, and stakeholder relationships. 
  • Coordinate outreach efforts to expand program participation and demonstrate organizational value to potential funders 
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with potential partners and funders making strategic introductions to MCEC’s Advancement team.
  • Contribute to organizational strategic planning through regional insights, performance data, and stakeholder feedback 




Data Management & Performance Accountability 

  • Collect, analyze, and report comprehensive program data and outcome metrics to demonstrate impact and inform continuous improvement 
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation supporting grant compliance, organizational accountability, and strategic decision-making 
  •  Support organizational evaluation efforts across regional programs to ensure robust measurement and evidence-based practice 
  • Provide regular progress reports to organizational leadership and external stakeholders with strategic insights and recommendations 
  • Monitor regional trends and emerging needs that inform program adaptation and resource allocation 


Team Leadership & Development 

  • Provide strategic supervision and professional development for regional team members including goal setting, performance management, and career growth 
  • Foster collaborative team culture that embodies MCEC's values while achieving measurable outcomes and stakeholder satisfaction 
  • Coordinate volunteer engagement and partner collaboration to maximize community capacity and resource leverage 
  • Support staff recruitment, onboarding, and training to ensure consistent quality and organizational culture alignment 
  • Lead crisis management and problem-solving for regional challenges while maintaining positive stakeholder relationships 


Position Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education, public administration, political science, or related field from accredited institution 
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive leadership experience in education, government, military, or nonprofit sectors with demonstrated success in stakeholder relationship management 
  • Proven track record in strategic planning, policy advocacy, and multi-stakeholder initiative coordination 
  • Strong background in team leadership and supervision with experience managing diverse staff and volunteer teams 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with experience representing organizations at executive and legislative levels 
  • Deep understanding of education policy, military culture, and challenges facing military-connected families 
  • Extensive knowledge of state government operations, education systems, and military installation structures 


Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in relevant field of study 
  • Personal or family military service experience providing credibility within military communities 
  • Experience in state government, education policy, or military family advocacy with established professional networks 
  • Professional experience in crisis management, public relations, or stakeholder communications 
  • Bilingual (Spanish)
