Staff Writer for Trade Publications

Professional Sports Publications is seeking a motivated writer to join a growing editorial team as a staff writer. The department independently produces industry-focused trade publications covering topics such as shipping ports, transportation infrastructure and government agencies. The ideal candidate is a quick learner who is curious to research new topics and manages their time well while working on multiple projects at once.


This will be a full-time, in-person writing position based out of our Midtown Manhattan office.


Writers will:


  • Work closely with Senior and Associate Editors to research, pitch, write and edit multiple industry-specific editorial projects a month.
  • Write short- and long-form (500-1,000 words) magazine-style articles on industry-specific topics.
  • Coordinate with representatives from partner organizations to conduct interviews and gather necessary information.
  • Proof designed pages for grammar/style errors.
  • Assist in photo research and procurement for written articles.


*Skills desired: *

  • Candidates should have a strong background in research and should be comfortable pursuing projects independently, as well as collaborating with a team.
  • 1-2 years of experience working in news, marketing or communications preferred (can include internships and student publications).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must, since candidates will be expected to correspond with individuals outside of the team.
  • Candidates should be flexible and able to multitask in response to changing deadlines and concurrent projects.
  • Working knowledge of AP Style is preferred.
  • Experience using Adobe InDesign and/or Acrobat is a plus.
  • Experience working with B2B or technical writing is a plus.


The salary range is $40-45K annually + benefits.

The independent team is the newest arm of PSP, publishing over 100 annual industry-specific magazines covering non-sports sectors such as shipping ports, transportation infrastructure and government agencies. We are a close-knit group of writers and editors working to establish connections across industries to shape our brand while also encouraging each individual’s personal development. Our publications are circulated among leaders from national coalitions, transit agencies and local business associations.
