The Staff Counsel Employment position will serve as an Employment Law attorney for Walgreens’ in-house legal department. This position will focus on supporting Walgreens’ employment litigation and regulatory portfolio. In addition, this role will include some counseling and special projects related to compliance and employment related matters.
Provide strategic, timely, practical counseling to various client groups regarding employment related issues
Investigate and respond to federal, state and local administrative charges and hearings
Partner with senior department attorneys in managing and directing outside counsel, including developing strategy and tactics on employment litigation matters
Conduct training and presentations to business and HR leaders on various employment law issues of legal significance
Assist in development and implementation of company policies and programs to promote compliance with federal, state and local labor and employment laws and regulations
Required travel up to 20%
This role is located in Deerfield, IL and follows a hybrid schedule
Juris Doctorate degree

Builds professional experience and learns the practical aspects of applied law, as well as learning the functions of the business.
May review legal documents and identify legal and business issues for more senior law professionals.
Assists on cases, undertakes research, reviews standard documents and routine contracts, and prepares routine filings.
Position typically reports to the managing attorney.
Recognizes the limitations of own knowledge and seeks guidance from more senior law professionals as necessary.

Basic Qualifications
Recent admission to the bar and or otherwise lawfully permitted to practice law pursuant to state law or Illinois Supreme Court rules.
Preferred Qualifications
2+ years employment litigation and counseling experience on all aspects of Federal and State EEO statutes (Title VII, ADA, ADEA), as well as FMLA and wage and hour law
Extensive knowledge of all relevant aspects of litigation and dispute resolution
Ability to work in a fast paced, high demand environment
Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently and be committed to providing exemplary customer service to leadership of all levels
Must be a results-oriented self-starter who can work both independently and on a team.
