Our client is a public company seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations and financial reporting activities in Bethesda, Maryland. This role will contribute to monthly close, account analysis, cash activity, and fixed asset accounting while partnering with the Accounting Manager and other stakeholders to maintain accurate records. Responsibilities:
• Record recurring monthly journal entries and maintain accurate general ledger activity across assigned accounts.
• Reconcile bank accounts and selected balance sheet accounts each month, investigating and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Contribute to the month-end close process by preparing schedules, validating balances, and supporting timely completion of accounting tasks.
• Assist with the preparation of financial statements and help organize supporting materials for quarterly and annual external filings.
• Compile audit support and perform detailed tie-outs to strengthen the accuracy of reporting provided to investors, leadership, and other stakeholders.
• Maintain fixed asset records by entering capital additions, reconciling subledger activity to the general ledger, and supporting depreciation and tax-related reporting.
• Process recurring cash disbursements such as debt and lease payments, and provide backup support for invoice entry and payment processing when needed.
• Prepare internal billing documentation for reimbursement activity and help apply approved AI-enabled tools to streamline routine general ledger processes.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related discipline is required.
• 1+ year of public accounting experienced highly desired
• Working knowledge of double-entry accounting concepts, including debits, credits, and account reconciliation practices.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, with the ability to organize and analyze financial data accurately.
• Familiarity with financial reporting support, audit documentation, or public accounting environments is preferred.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• High level of accuracy, sound judgment, and personal accountability when handling confidential financial information.
