Senior Project Manager – Underground Utilities Construction


Position Summary

The Senior Project Manager is a key leadership role responsible for driving the successful execution and financial performance of complex, high-value underground utility and trenchless construction projects from award through closeout. Reporting to Area or Regional leadership, this role offers significant ownership of project outcomes, client relationships, and profitability.

The Senior Project Manager will lead project strategy, mentor teams, and play a critical role in scaling operations and delivering best-in-class results.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all phases of project delivery, including planning, execution, financial management, and closeout
  • Own project financial performance, including budgets, forecasting, cost control, and margin optimization
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, engineers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders
  • Review and interpret contracts, specifications, and scope; lead change order negotiations and risk management efforts
  • Develop and manage project schedules, ensuring alignment with operational and financial goals
  • Partner with Operations and field teams to ensure seamless project execution and successful handoffs
  • Oversee subcontractor procurement, performance, compliance, and billing
  • Monitor key performance metrics and proactively implement corrective actions to drive results
  • Lead monthly financial reviews, including cost analysis, forecasting, and variance reporting
  • Ensure all pre-construction and project documentation requirements are completed accurately and on time
  • Drive project safety, quality, and compliance across all activities
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships to support repeat business and long-term growth

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of progressive project management experience in construction, preferably within underground utilities or trenchless rehabilitation
  • Proven track record managing complex, high-value projects with full P&L responsibility
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, specifications, and regulatory requirements
  • Experience with trenchless technologies such as CIPP, pipe bursting, CCTV inspection, or related methods is highly preferred
  • Demonstrated financial acumen, including forecasting, cost control, and margin management
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and lead high-performing teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with HCSS or similar project management tools preferred
