- Availability: Must be available for both day and night shifts

Title and starting pay rate will be determined based on years of experience.
Position Purpose
The Senior Professional Staff Nurse II is a Registered Nurse and a key member of the care delivery team, responsible for advancing practice through quality improvement and evidence-based care. This role sets standards for the level and quality of nursing care and maintains responsibility, authority, and accountability for patient outcomes.
The Senior Professional Staff Nurse II provides and manages care for a group of patients and families by applying independent judgment, effective communication, and collaboration with interdisciplinary team members. This role encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision, while fostering strong relationships with physicians, care providers, patients, and families across the continuum of care. The Sr. PSN II demonstrates a commitment to the community, the profession of nursing, and professional excellence.

Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of Registered Nurse experience required.
- BSN preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to provide age-appropriate care to the patient populations served, including:
- Knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan.
- Ability to assess, interpret, and respond to patient data based on age-specific needs in accordance with department policies and procedures.
- Must successfully complete annual professional contributions aligned with department, hospital, or system goals, as approved by the Unit Director.
- Must obtain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher rating on a Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluation for promotion to this level and maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher rating annually to retain status.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, leaders, physicians, advanced practice providers, ancillary staff, other departments, and patients/families.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, complex healthcare environment while managing multiple and changing priorities.
- Exemplary clinical judgment with strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead and support others in the application of the nursing process.
- Physical requirements include mobility, visual/manual dexterity, and physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
Certification & Professional Development Requirements
Annual completion of a professional contribution approved by the Unit Director AND one of the following:
- Obtain and maintain a UPMC-approved nursing certification within 1 year of hire/transfer
OR - Certification is not required if a Master’s degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is held.
- If a BSN is held, a Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted in lieu of certification.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state where the facility is located OR a multistate license issued by a participating Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state.
- Employees working under an out-of-state NLC license who change residency to the facility’s state must apply for state licensure within 60 days.
- CPR/BLS certification in accordance with American Heart Association (AHA) standards, including both didactic and skills demonstration, within 30 days of hire.
- My Nursing Career–approved certification, if applicable.
- Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance (with renewal)
- Act 34 Criminal Clearance (with renewal)
- Act 73 FBI Clearance (with renewal)
