Sr PCS Engineer

The Senior Process Control Systems (PCS) Engineer is responsible for planning, execution, coordination, and monitoring of activities in support of Process Control Systems across the Berkeley site; In this role, you drive reliable, compliant, and efficient PCS performance that enables safe and robust manufacturing operations; You work closely with internal partners and external vendors, setting levels of technical performance for others to emulate and building a strong network of stakeholders to continuously improve site automation strategies.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Process Control Engineer, are to:

  • Execute PCS projects and activities to support Berkeley Supply Center goals for Engineering TSOs, Manufacturing, Manufacturing Sciences, Process Engineering, Central Utilities, and other support groups;
  • Respond to PCS issues in support of plant operations, including on-demand troubleshooting and break-fix support;
  • Perform PCS problem report investigations, troubleshooting, and break-fix modifications, including actions from discrepancies and CAPAs as system owner;
  • Develop formal scopes of work for PCS programming activities in collaboration with Operations and Plant Engineering, and coordinate implementation including change management, software development, commissioning, and validation testing;
  • Develop standard control functions (continuous, sequential, batch) and associated commissioning/validation test protocols for reusable implementation on PCS systems;
  • Perform technical system owner (TSO) functions for assigned PCS systems, including user access management and periodic reviews to ensure compliance and data integrity;
  • Provide PCS system and application training to Operations and Plant Engineering personnel on DCS, SCADA, REES, and PLC-based systems, and support integration of PCS with other site systems as needed.

WHO YOU ARE

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related engineering field from an accredited college or university;
  • Experience in industrial automation, including implementation, troubleshooting, and system support, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Expertise in designing, commissioning, and supporting PCS systems, preferably in a cGMP or other regulated manufacturing environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex equipment and automation systems and drive issues to sustainable resolution;
  • Strong project management skills, including planning, prioritization, and coordination of multiple stakeholders;
  • Knowledge of change control principles and practices in a regulated environment;
  • Strong technical and business communication skills and effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across functions such as Quality Assurance, MSAT, and Maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS with 6+ years, MS with 0–4+ years, or PhD with 0–2 years of relevant experience in industrial automation or process control (years of experience as noted are preferred benchmarks);
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in industrial automation, including implementation, troubleshooting, and system support, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience implementing and maintaining PCS systems specifically in a cGMP biopharmaceutical or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment;
  • Proven capability for interdisciplinary work and coordination with diverse technical and operational teams.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $93,840.00 to $140,760.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc..

This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
