About the Role:

As a CBRE Senior Energy Manager, supporting one our technical clients, you will oversee the development and execution of programmatic energy and smart building initiatives. This role sits within the Energy and Sustainability function and focuses on enabling digitized, scalable building operations through commissioning, systems integration, and data-driven performance management.

You will manage two technical teams—engineering/commissioning and systems integrators—responsible for commissioning building assets so they are digitally visible, monitored, and optimized. This includes working closely with contractors to ensure requirements are met, maintaining high data integrity, and supporting 24/7 building and infrastructure operations.

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide formal people leadership, including hiring, onboarding, performance management, coaching, and career development.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop staff through cross‑training, upskilling, and future‑readiness planning.
  • Oversee daily team operations, including workload planning, task assignments, scheduling, and deadline management.
  • Establish and execute strategies and programs to achieve client goals, with recommendations across mechanical systems, digital infrastructure, architecture, and operations.
  • Partner with clients to improve KPIs, energy performance, and carbon reduction outcomes across multiple real estate portfolios.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying and implementing energy, commissioning, and smart building optimization opportunities.
  • Integrate expert knowledge of smart building energy strategies, emerging technologies, and data‑driven solutions.
  • Direct and monitor commissioning and energy performance to ensure savings targets and comfort standards are consistently met.
  • Analyze, validate, and present performance metrics, insights, and projections to internal partners and client stakeholders.
  • Apply broad technical, business, and operational knowledge to solve complex problems and understand downstream impacts.
  • Improve and evolve existing methods, processes, and standards to support scalable, sustainable operations.
  • Lead by example by modeling behaviors aligned with CBRE RISE values and influencing others to adopt new perspectives within established policies and plans.


What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred with 5–8 years of relevant experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Prior people management experience required, with demonstrated success in hiring, staffing, training, coaching, mentoring, performance management, and retention.
  • Experience or exposure to smart buildings, with a clear understanding of what it takes to operate and sustain a successful smart building or digital platform.
  • Background in facilities engineering, industrial operations, or related technical environments, preferably within complex or multi‑site portfolios.
  • Proven experience supporting or enabling digitized operations, with a strong focus on data integrity, analysis, and performance monitoring.
  • Highly detail‑oriented, with the ability to manage complex technical information, data sets, and system dependencies.
  • Demonstrated ability as a people developer, focused on talent growth, cross‑training, upskilling, and future‑readiness.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to convey sensitive or complex information, set clear performance expectations, and address issues effectively.
  • Ability to motivate teams to achieve broad operational objectives with impact across multiple disciplines and departments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook), with the ability to analyze and present data effectively.
  • Intermediate math and financial skills, including the ability to calculate percentages, ratios, and other performance‑ or finance‑related metrics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with smart building technology platforms, industrial digital transformation initiatives, or technology‑enabled operations.
  • Familiarity with IoT / IIoT environments, including device integration and data pipelines.
  • Working knowledge of Fault Detection & Diagnostics (FDD).
  • Experience launching or scaling IoT operations, digital products, or technology‑driven innovations.

Washington Residents: CBRE carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate’s education, training, and experience. The minimum salary for the Sr. Energy Manager position is $140, 000 annually and the maximum salary for the Sr. Energy Manager position is $150,000 annually. The compensation that is offered to a successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience. Successful candidates will also be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on CBRE’s applicable benefit program. This role will provide the following benefits: 401(K), Dental insurance, Health insurance, Life insurance, and Vision insurance.
