Anticipated starting salary is between $86,400 - $104,640 depending on qualifications.The Sr. Communications Specialist supports the Port’s mission and values by advancing effective internal and external communications through the creation of clear, compelling, and visually engaging content across multiple platforms. Working collaboratively with the communications team and staff throughout the organization, this position serves as a primary graphic design resource for the Port, producing a large volume of high-quality graphic design materials, and is responsible for managing the organization’s social media presence. This role requires advanced expertise in visual storytelling, exceptional graphic design skills, and demonstrated success managing social media for a large organization, along with experience developing content for intranet, e-newsletters, websites, and other digital channels.
- Social Media Management: Develop and execute the Port’s social media strategy by planning, creating, publishing, and managing engaging content—including text, images, videos, and infographics—across all Port social media channels. Monitor platforms for audience engagement, respond to comments and direct messages, and analyze performance metrics to inform continuous improvement.
- Graphic Design Production: Design and produce a high volume of graphic design materials and digital assets for use across web, social media, video, presentations, and print. Ensure visual content aligns with the Port’s brand standards and communication objectives.
- Writing and Editing: Write, edit, and proofread content for a variety of communications channels, including e-newsletters, intranet, website, flyers, fact sheets, presentations, and other materials, maintaining a consistent voice, tone and quality.
- Collaboration and Content Development: Collaborate with the communications team and staff across the Port to align messaging, identify story opportunities, gather information, and develop content that supports organizational priorities and initiatives.
- Market and Trend Awareness: Monitor trends and best practices in social media, graphic design, and digital communications, and apply emerging tools, technologies, and approaches to keep Port content current, relevant, and engaging.
- Emergency and Incident Communications: Support emergency, incident, and crisis-communications as needed by assisting with the development and dissemination of timely, accurate, and responsive messaging during critical situations.
Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in public relations, marketing, journalism or closely related field required. An additional four (4) years of relevant experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
Four (4) years of relevant experience with a demonstrated focus on social media and graphic design is required.Knowledge:
- Principles and practices of communications, public relations, graphic design, social media, digital communications, and marketing/branding.
Skills:
- A strong portfolio showcasing a range of graphic design and social media content.
- Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator; motion graphics design experience a plus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Problem analysis and decision making; planning and organizing; time management; adaptability and flexibility.
