This role oversees a team of VDC specialists, ensures accurate and coordinated BIM deliverables, and drives quality, productivity, and consistency across projects. The position combines hands-on modeling and drawing production with leadership, training, and collaboration with project teams, field personnel, and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee construction document management, ensuring the BIM team has current project-related information including submittals, specifications, and vendor-specific models.
  • Translate design intent contract documents and 3D design models of piping and mechanical systems into detailed LOD 400 BIM models for mechanical and plumbing systems.
  • Work closely with engineers and project managers to produce accurate fabrication-ready and installation-ready BIM models.
  • Collaborate with the general contractor and other subcontractors to achieve spatial coordination of all trades.
  • Attend weekly coordination meetings, onsite or virtually, to support and drive spatial coordination across all disciplines.
  • Generate and track Requests for Information (RFIs) to the design team when clarification or additional information is required.
  • Create detailed shop drawings to support fabrication and installation for mechanical, plumbing, and associated trades.
  • Develop and annotate shop drawings, hanger drawings, and sleeve drawings to clearly communicate installation requirements.
  • Create and export hanger and sleeve coordinates for use by the robotic total station layout team for field layout.
  • Communicate with field personnel, as needed, to ensure fabrication and installation intent is clearly represented on shop and spool drawings.
  • Mentor and train VDC team members in the use of modeling and collaboration software, as well as in the creation of fabrication and installation drawings and documents.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members to complete drawings and models required to meet project schedules.
  • Maintain ongoing training and continued education for yourself and the team to continually improve accuracy, productivity, and modeling capabilities.
  • Provide input to management regarding hardware and software needs to effectively perform BIM and VDC duties.
  • Enhance communication and collaboration between functional business partners and project stakeholders.
  • Participate in job interviews, when requested, to speak to the capabilities and processes of the VDC team.
  • Coordinate project activities, monitor progress, and adjust priorities to successfully reach project goals and milestones.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership, ethical behavior, and integrity while balancing team and individual responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
