The WSI eCommerce Architecture team shapes the future of Williams-Sonoma's world class cross-brand, cross-channel, and cross-market eCommerce platform. Our small team of technology experts work closely with many engineering teams and other architects on solutions across the technology stack including experiences in users' browsers and devices, the back-end services and tools that deliver those experiences, and integrations with both internal and external partners.

About the Role 

In this role you will be instrumental in crafting and delivering the technical vision, architecture, and implementation of the eCommerce platform for Williams-Sonoma. You will play a hands-on role in delivering solutions through the application of technologies and processes, from proof-of-concept and reference implementations through to full production systems. You will recommend for new technologies and approaches to advance the capabilities and value of the company's ecommerce platform. You will use strong technical design and analytical skills to communicate effectively across all levels of the Williams-Sonoma, Inc. organization, while providing expertise and leadership across multiple eCommerce domains.

Responsibilities

  • Advance the front-end architecture strategy so WSI can deliver scalable, modular, and maintainable solutions. Understand existing architecture patterns, ensure they are applied appropriately, and drive the evolution of the front-end architecture as the technology landscape changes.

  • Lead technology selection by evaluating and standardizing the frameworks, libraries, and tools used within the technology organization.

  • Drive the development and adoption of design and engineering standards and best practices to deliver enterprise-grade solutions and world class customer experiences.

  • Develop effective designs for current and future business challenges, including written specifications, proof of concept or prototype implementations, across multiple functional domains within the eCommerce environment.

  • Champion great customer experiences across the entire eCommerce experience. Ensure applications meet or exceed accessibility and usability standards.

  • Mentor and guide engineering teams through technical leadership. Design reviews, and one-on-one coaching. 

  • Analyze and optimize production systems to continuously improvement performance, correctness, and customer experience.

Criteria

  • 10+ years of software engineering/architecture experience, with a significant focus on front-end, high-traffic, consumer-facing applications.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience. 

  • Deep expertise in modern front-end technologies such as Vue.js, React, and TypeScript.

  • Proven experience designing architecturally sound, scalable front-end solutions, such as micro-frontends, headless experiences. 

  • Experience in operating at scale, including performance optimization for load cycles and peak events. Understanding of monitoring at scale (e.g. RUM, Web Vitals, etc.) and engineering for scale (e.g. CDNs, edge computing, caching, etc.).

  • Experience with shift-left engineering practices, including automated testing, CI/CD, and DevOps.

  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills, with experience engaging stakeholders, providing technical direction to engineers, and driving architectural and standards governance.

  • This role requires being onsite in the San Francisco office Monday through Thursday.

The expected starting pay range for this position is $190,000 - $220,000. Applicable pay ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. In addition to competitive pay, compensation may include a variety of other components like benefits, paid time off, merit, and bonus opportunities.
