Hiring Salary: $50,000 - $60,000 annually
The Senior Academic Advisor II applies advanced advising expertise to deliver the full range of academic advising services, including representing the University in public settings, completing essential administrative responsibilities, and providing accurate, high-quality guidance through individual appointments, group sessions, and workshops.
Using appreciative inquiry and systematic tracking, the Senior Academic Advisor evaluates and interprets students’ needs to deliver individualized, student-centered- support that promotes academic success and progression.
In addition to core advising duties, this position serves in a leadership capacity—supporting strategic initiatives, overseeing complex advising functions, and advancing the advising mission of the College and the University. This role functions as a key partner to advising leadership and plays a critical role in ensuring excellence, consistency, and innovation across the advising unit.
Responsibilities:
- Provide high-level advising leadership, including advanced problem-solving, expert guidance on curriculum and degree requirements, and strategic oversight to ensure consistent, timely, and accurate advising across the COED advising team.
- Support the Senior Department Administrator by assessing and resolving complex advising issues related to academic policies, procedures, and student progression.
- Assist COED Academic Advisors by providing comprehensive, student-centered advising coverage as needed, including academic planning, major exploration, career support, and alignment with advising best practices and student success priorities.
- Perform advising-related administrative duties, including maintaining and updating confidential records, managing workflows, and conducting reporting and analysis of advising data.
- Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with academic departments and University units to help develop advising initiatives, coordinate services, and strengthen alignment with broader institutional goals.
- Serve in a leadership role in advising activities such as committee participation with ARC Committee, CAA, and other advising activities, advising program development, student communication, professional development planning, and campus engagement efforts.
- Coordinate and serve as a mentor/trainer for advising staff on university, state, and federal academic policies. This includes training on degree requirements, transfer articulation, and state licensure regulations.
- Provide supervisory support, including assisting with leave management, ethics disclosures, performance management, hiring and onboarding, turnover processes, and addressing escalated student concerns.
- Strengthen advising unit operations by ensuring adequate advising presence at University Orientations, recruitment events, and College of Education programs; contribute ideas for programming and student engagement initiatives.
- Ensure timely completion of advising projects; serve as a liaison and advocate for advising needs; support program assessment; and serve as a point of contact with the Senior Department Administrator and Associate Dean for College and University leadership.
- Promote a positive, collaborative work environment, modeling excellence in developmental advising and supporting the implementation of strategic initiatives and best practices.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of academic programs and advising technologies, while actively pursuing ongoing professional growth and leadership development.
- Lead the Graduation Certification process, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely completion.
- Perform additional related duties as required to support advising operations and advance student success.
