We are seeking a SQL Application Developer to join a fast-paced development team responsible for building and maintaining backend database logic that directly supports customer-facing web applications. This role focuses on SQL Server development, including stored procedures, functions, and performance-optimized query design within a high-volume OLTP environment. This is a hands-on development role where engineers are expected to take ownership of their code from development through deployment, ensuring performance, stability, and reliability in production systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain SQL Server stored procedures, functions, and database logic
- Support web-based applications through backend database development and optimization
- Write efficient, high-performance SQL for high-volume transactional (OLTP) systems
- Ensure code is optimized for speed, scalability, and production reliability
- Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues in database queries and stored procedures
- Collaborate with application developers as part of a sprint-based development team (Dev → QA → Deployment)
- Take ownership of database code from development through production release
- Work closely with team members to clarify requirements and deliver production-ready solutions
- Participate in production support and issue resolution as needed
Required Qualifications
- Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server
- Hands-on development of stored procedures, functions, and SQL-based application logic
- Experience working in high-volume OLTP environments
- Strong understanding of query performance tuning and optimization
- Ability to work in a fast-paced agile/sprint development environment
- Comfortable working with ambiguous requirements and asking clarifying questions
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate within a development team
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of code from development through production
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting web applications with direct database dependencies
- Familiarity with indexing strategies and database performance tuning
- Experience working in Microsoft-based application stacks
- Background in transactional systems with high-frequency usage
- Experience working in small to mid-sized development teams with broad ownership responsibilities
Role Environment
- Agile sprint-based development (Dev → QA → Deployment)
- SQL Server is the primary database platform
- Focus on performance-critical application databases (not DBA or reporting work)
- Code changes require team agreement before production deployment
- High emphasis on reliability and production stability
What Success Looks Like
- Fast, reliable SQL code that supports production web applications
- Minimal performance issues in production environments
- Ability to quickly understand requirements and deliver working solutions
- Strong collaboration with application developers and QA teams
- Ownership mindset: developers are responsible for the code they write end-to-end
