Job Overview

Byrd Enterprises (BEU) is seeking a licensed Spray Technician experienced in herbicide application/chemical turf management for National Veteran Cemetery Grounds Maintenance Projects in the Southeast District.

The ideal candidate understands chemical application best practices, vegetation management/turf & soil health, soil conditions, and is licensed/can be licensed in further states.


Key Responsibilities

  • Apply herbicide pre/post emergents, fertilizer, pest chemical treatments on National Veteran Cemeteries.
  • Conduct vegetation control treatments along fence lines, roads, and landscaped areas with caution and within environmental requirements
  • Perform fertilizer and soil amendment applications to support turf health
  • Identify weed species, turf issues, soil deficiencies, and pest infestations
  • Operate and maintain backpack sprayers, ride-on sprayers, and spray rigs
  • Calibrate chemical equipment to ensure accurate application rates
  • Mix and apply chemicals according to EPA label requirements and safety regulations
  • Maintain detailed spray logs and application records for regulatory compliance
  • Follow OSHA, EPA pesticide regulations, and federal site safety requirements


Required Qualifications

  • Valid state pesticide applicator license (commercial or public applicator- BEU will assist and pay for further licensing/training)
  • Experience with herbicide application and vegetation management
  • Knowledge of turf-grass management and weed identification
  • Ability to safely mix and apply chemicals, experience with spray equipment calibration
  • Ability to maintain spray equipment and work outdoors in various weather conditions


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in cemeteries, memorial parks, or government facilities
  • Knowledge of integrated vegetation management (IVM)
  • Experience managing vegetation around monuments, stone markers, and landscaped memorial grounds
  • Familiarity with federal safety/environmental standards/OSHA and documentation


Work Environment

  • Outdoor work environment when traveling onsite; in office when not applying
  • Use of chemical treatments and commercial spray equipment
  • Job Type: Full-Time with future growth in new Division
  • Location: Lynchburg, VA (Travel to federal cemetery and other locations required- 50% travel initially)
