Under the direction of the Sports Supervisor and Parks & Recreation leadership staff, the Sports Assistant helps ensure parks and athletic facilities are safe, well-maintained, and operated in a welcoming, professional, and efficient manner. This position plays a key role in assessing field conditions, preparing facilities for use, monitoring park activity, and supporting overall park operations.

Availability on evenings and weekends is required. Hours can vary from 1:00-7:00pm on weekdays and 6:30-9:30am on weekends and other hours as necessary.

  1. Report ready for duty at least 10 minutes prior to assigned shift.
  2. Be professional, alert, courteous, and tactful when interacting with patrons, user groups, and staff.
  3. Assess athletic field conditions and determine playability, particularly following inclement weather or heavy usage.
  4. Prepare and restore ball diamonds and athletic fields after weather events or scheduled use (dragging infields, addressing puddles, minor repairs, etc.).
  5. Assist in the general maintenance and upkeep of park grounds, including litter removal, basic landscaping tasks, and ensuring facilities are clean and presentable.
  6. Monitor park usage, including athletic field reservations and shelter rentals, ensuring groups are using assigned spaces appropriately.
  7. Enforce park rules and follow policies and procedures to ensure safe, effective, and efficient operations.
  8. Report field conditions, safety concerns, maintenance needs, vandalism, or operational issues to supervisory staff in a timely manner.
  9. Support communication with user groups, coaches, officials, and patrons regarding field conditions, closures, or operational updates.
  10. Assist with organized league supervision and administration as needed.
  11. Assist with basic administrative tasks as assigned, including documentation of field conditions, usage reports, and incident reports.
  12. Follow all established safety procedures and City policies.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned or directed by the Sports Supervisor, Recreation Superintendent, Parks Superintendent, or Parks & Recreation Director.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous customer service experience preferred.
  • Current American Red Cross or equivalent certi?cation in CPR, and First Aid preferred.
  • The City of Upper Arlington will determine the hourly rate
  • The Sports Assistant workweek is to be determined by the Sports Program Supervisor.
  • Hours worked in excess of 40 hours will be paid at the normal rate of pay with no provisions for overtime pay.
  • Employee must complete an annual drug and background screening.
