Position Summary

The Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) works under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to support speech and language therapy services for students with communication disorders. This role focuses on implementing therapy plans, assisting with evaluations, and documenting student progress in a structured educational setting.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the supervising SLP in delivering speech and language therapy services to students.
  • Conduct speech and language screenings using established protocols (without interpretation).
  • Implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) designed by the SLP.
  • Provide direct therapy support to improve:
  • Speech articulation
  • Language development
  • Oral-motor skills
  • Communication using assistive technology devices
  • Track and document student progress and report findings to the supervising SLP.
  • Prepare and organize therapy materials, equipment, and classroom resources.
  • Assist during assessments, including setup and clerical tasks.
  • Maintain accurate student records, data logs, and progress reports.
  • Adapt instructional materials based on student needs under SLP guidance.
  • Support classroom activities and help create a structured learning environment.


Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant program or related field
  • Active SLPA License (Arizona)
  • Basic knowledge of speech and language disorders and therapy techniques
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to follow directions and work under supervision


Preferred Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of experience as an SLPA or in a similar role (entry-level candidates welcome)
  • Experience working with children or in a school/educational setting
  • Familiarity with IEP processes and documentation
  • Exposure to assistive communication devices


Work Environment

  • School-based setting (Special Education Department)
  • Direct interaction with students with speech and language disorders
  • Collaborative work with SLPs, teachers, and staff


Schedule

  • Monday–Thursday: 7:45 AM – 3:45 PM
  • Friday: 7:45 AM – 1:15 PM


Additional Notes for SLP (Entry-Level) Candidates

For candidates with 1–2 years as a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP):

  • Must hold a valid SLP license (Arizona)
  • Will be responsible for supervising SLPAs
  • Expected to design therapy plans, interpret assessments, and manage caseloads
