Memorial Rehabilitation Institute provides highly specialized care ranging from complex multiple trauma, stroke and brain injury to physical and speech therapy. Inpatient care is offered at Memorial Regional Hospital South, with outpatient care available in five different locations. We also have a home health team and resources for long-term care at Memorial Manor, while also offering therapy for pediatric developmental diagnosis through Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.


Summary:


This SLP will be part of the cochlear implant team and will be treating aural rehab patients in addition to traditional speech and language.


Evaluates and treats patient populations for speech-language pathology needs.


This position is part of the JDCH cochlear implant program consisting of physician, audiologist, speech therapists, social work creating a multi-disciplinary approach for the program.

  • Rehabilitation Clinical Ladder- A structured system to provide therapists clinical advancement and leadership in their current clinical setting while providing direct patient care. The clinical ladder challenges therapists to grow and develop their skills through obtaining certifications, completing research, teaching continuing education courses, completing journal reviews, presenting case studies and researching the latest evidenced based practice.
  • Memorial offers internal CEU courses, CEU educational series, Annual JDCH Rehab symposium, Journal clubs and Rehab Grand rounds and lectures that target the latest trends and research in the field

  • Treatments are 30-45 minutes, one to one with continuity of care provided through consistent scheduling

Responsibilities:


Supervises and mentors activities of peers, fellows and other support personnel. Performs and documents initial and ongoing assessments of patient's condition. Designs and implements a plan of care which is appropriate to issues identified, required frequency of treatments, and involves the patient/family. Educates and counsels patients and families regarding treatment plans and progress. Provides information regarding appropriate selection/use of adaptive equipment and support resources. Plans and/or assists with patient discharge from therapy services.
