Work Schedule:

  • Full Time Days (36 hrs/week)
  • 6am - 6pm, have flexibility to work 8s, 10s or 12s
  • Team members select their weekend call averaging 2 weekend days every six weeks

Job Overview:

This position is a qualified registered nurse accountable to the Nursing Manager/ Assistant Nurse Manager CVOR/Operating Room OR's, for the planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, communicating, and monitoring of patient care activities within CVOR. The CVOR Specialty Team Leader demonstrates effective utilization of resources, facilities and team cohesiveness and assumes specialty service responsibilities in the CVOR.

The CVOR consists of four cardiothoracic operating rooms and two hybrid rooms, supporting a comprehensive cardiac and thoracic surgery program. The team is highly cohesive across the entire CVOR and all disciplines, fostering a collaborative, familylike environment where everyone works well together. Surgical volumes have steadily increased over the past 2–5 years, reflecting program growth, stability, and ongoing opportunities within a strong and wellsupported cardiac and thoracic service line.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree required within five years in Nursing (Required)

Two-year Degree (Required)

2 - 3 years' relevant experience (Required)

Registered Nurse licensure required

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coaches and supports the development of staff through in-services, staff meetings, etc. to ensure information relative to the services is shared with all staff.
  • Assists in evaluating new staff and team members utilizing anecdotal process and/or the performance appraisal system.
  • Collaborates with Physicians and other health care team members through demonstrated communication - verbal and nonverbal - skills and actions.
  • Coordinates the functions of the specialty area, equipment, supplies etc.
  • Demonstrates organizational responsibilities. Identifies areas for self-improvement through self-assessment and peer review.
  • Functions in relief charge nurse role or other roles as requested. Cooperates with instructor/educator to facilitate learning experiences for students.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and is supportive of organizational and unit changes.
  • Supports organizational activities by participating in activities such as committees, staff meetings, councils.
  • Uses chain of command appropriately. Builds collegial relationships with physicians and other health team members.
  • Demonstrates autonomy in identifying opportunities for process improvement. Maintains and improves current knowledge
  • Evaluates the plan of care for patient based on optimal specific patient outcomes by documenting response to care provided.
  • Collaborates with the patient and with other members of the health care team, including physicians, to revise plan of care as needed. Supervises the care that was delegated to other health care team members
  • Performs initial and ongoing assessment of patient and family.
  • Plans care for patient based on assessment, standards of care, and optimal specific outcomes. Initiates and individualizes appropriate patient care guidelines/plan of care based on surgical case needs
  • Provides a safe and therapeutic environment while maintaining patient’s autonomy, dignity, and rights based on ethical principles.
  • Performs technical skills according to policy and procedure and accepted standards within their area of practice.
  • Safely administers medications/treatments and monitors their effects. Uses all equipment in a safe, appropriate manner.
  • Recognizes emergency situations, notifies appropriate personnel, and begins emergency measures.
